The strange thing is this would have been a positive thread after the Southampton game.
It shouldnt come as a surprise that it will take time or results will be up and down.
Based on the last 6 months of last season we were a team in relegation form.
People need to have a bit of patience, and hopefully we'll adress the gaping holes in the squad in January.

I wondering whether this system would work, even with the right players. We always knew this was a risk, having 80 fucking percent possession every week and losing, possession means fuck all, goals do. We've got to back him until the end of the season, and the board need to back him in January. God knows who'd want to come to us playing like this though. Sturridge and Walcott would probably piss themselves if we approached them now.
Could that not be seen as short-term v long-term? Rodgers is looking to make us better long-term. If there's some short-term pain, that's not unexpected. Just saying ....... but I'm disappointed too, and less hopeful of the long-term than I'd like to be.
He got a lot of well deserved praise because he dared to utilize the youth .... But beeing total shite with well established flops in the team is just dire!

My faith in it comes and goes - a little wobbly at the moment to be fair. But I like the fact that there is a plan, that its pushed throughout the club, that it is in alignment with our past ... to an extent. It needs to have more dynamic elements. Benitez and Houllier both had their own plans - both started with getting the defence right and making us hard to beat, then they tried, with varying success, to make us more expansive.
I'm hoping the passing competence and confidence is the first step with Rodgers, and that it will lead in time, to a greater level of incisiveness. He doesn't really have his own players yet, just Joe Allen. He's going to be given time, of that I'm sure. The next six months will hopefully bring some signs of progression.

Absolutely. Tippy-tappy football currently wins nothing in England, which is why Arsenal have won nothing since Wenger lost himself in the 'beauty' of it all. If even the mighty Barcelona can get thrown off course (by Chelsea and Real Madrid) at the peak of their powers whilst fielding arguably the greatest player to play the game, what hope have a mediocre bunch of misfits and a novice manager got of getting very far in a much harder setting, the EPL?

it's interesting , i was thinking even before the game that bar maybe the left back position and the extra forward with Sterling and Suarez that this will probably be our first 11 for some time (baring injuries of course) . I mean i may be wrong but i can't see rodgers bombing out alot of that team and replacing them . I mean who might he replace ? lucas? , gerrard? , allen? , suarez? , sterling ?, johnson ?, agger ?, skrtel ? i can't see any of them being fecked off soon.
So with that in mind i do wonder how far this team can progress . On paper these guys look like decent players but they've been fairly wank overall for a few seasons now to the point where we probably have to say a number are not just good enough , at least not collectively for some reason .
The thing we have to start doing is stop talking. Stop talking about 4th, 2nd, maximum points during Christmas, how good we are and how many points we'll pick up in the easy fixtures.

Completely changing the brand of football is always going to be a huge task. Takes time to bring in the right players and change the way the current players play, if they are suited to the new system at all, that is. Brendan is intent on stamping his ethos on the squad and doesn't seem as though he will compromise so it's a question of fingers crossed and hoping it all clicks and fast. I look at arsenal and where they are now, and am not exactly filled with confidence.
This was an aspect of what the once much heralded 'Liverpool Way' aspired to, get your players all doing what they were good at then add other better players when the opportunity arose.
I'm sure moulding players into a team came before moulding players into a system.

I think the reason we lost is psychological, pure and simple. It has nothing to do with "the system," whatever it is (and frankly I find it ridiculous to slag Rodgers for being some kind of stubborn adherent to a particular system, which he clearly is not). I do, however, think this one is on Rodgers for not preparing the team better mentally for this game. They came out too relaxed and without enough respect for their opponent and in football you get punished for that rather quickly. Hope everybody learned their lesson.
But once again, this loss has nothing to do with tactics or playing style. It was so clearly in the psychological realm, it's simply pointless to make any collusions on tactics or individual players based on this game. For fucks sake, Downing was our best player on the pitch! Does it mean he is really better than Suarez and Gerrard? Of course not. But he happened to be the only one with a point to prove.
Perhaps you could say the same about Sterling, but his performance left the point unproven. But at least he tried.

I think thats more so the legacy of their ridiculous transfer policies/wage structure than an indicator on their brand of football, they have sold at least one of their best players every summer for the last 5 years and always replaced them with far cheaper players. Its impossible to make progress with that system regardless of the manager or philospohy
