Granted, my view is slightly altered due to Australia's abysmal showing but this World Cup has been fucking shite so far.
I also understand that's it only the first group games and Brazil and Spain are yet to play but come on. It's boring, every game is slow, vuvufuckingzelas, the ball, no attacking flair, no free kicks, no long distance shots (bar Ronaldo).
I was so excited for this World Cup and it's already boring me.
Am I expecting too much? Do others feel the same way? Is this too soon?
I'd love to be proved wrong.

With the exception of the Germans it has been pretty dire so far, but yes, it would be too soon to write the whole competition off completely. The early stages of the WC or the Euros are often fairly dismal.

I literally just texted this to Themn.
It's been fucking rubbish so far.
To much professionalism and cagey tactics.
It's utter cunt. I'm hoping that it gets better by the next game when teams need to win.

Thanks for rubbing it in.

...when it wasn't even a red card offence. Now THAT was what I call poetic justice, after all he gets away with for the blueslime.

Thanks again.

This thread isn't going to well for you J is it ? Did you watch New Zealands brave performance today ?

it's been dismal. still, the complete lack of quality at least gives me hope that england can win it.

i think, btw, there's still only been one 0-0, which is a miracle given the football so far.

It's like that European Cup Final between Red Star Belgrade and Marseille, over and over again.

The Yugoslavs whole game plan was a penalty shoot-out.

This World Cup is ruining the mutha fuckin' World Cup !

It will get better though.

Yeah, salt to the wounds and all that. We'll still make it through to the knock stages though. Famous last words.
And I was sitting through the fucking borefest that was New Zealand. Was quite happy to see them getting done and, in a good mood, let the missus switch over for a few minutes of Grey's Anatomy, bless her. Got messages a few minutes later from a couple of New Zealand mates. Flicked back and couldn't believe it. Fucking Grey's Anatomy. Fucking New Zealand. Fucking World Cup.

If it's any consolation at all, that post has just made my day. ;D

Hahaha

I feel very lucky that my pain can bring such joy.
To be fair, I'd probably much rather watch McSteamy or McDreamy or whatever the fuck is name is than see New Zealand travelling better than Australia.

It's the first games of all of these teams and no one wants to lose their first game, hence it's been tight and close.

I'm expecting the tournament to pick up in the next round of games when teams have to win.

i'm sure it's never usually this bad, though, so there must be some other explanation.

A comparative analysis with previous tournaments, based on almost any rational indicator set, will confirm that this has been the worst start to a World Cup EVER.

Yes this has been pretty dire so far, too cagey, no performances by the big name players. Hopefully Brazil and Spain will get things moving over the next 2 days and then once we are into the 2nd round of group matches the teams have to play with a bit more urgency, it can only improve from here. Also this tournament is suffereing from comparison with Germany 2006 which was immense

Yeah, most of the football has been mindnumbingly slow and cautious so far. I was blaming that on altitude or something until I watched Germany, when they ran around as if they were fresh as daisies. The new ball has made it difficult to score from free-kicks too, so the usual saving grace of bad games has gone.

It can only get better. I hope.

I've still got the feeling that this WorldCup will be remembered for some great moments and lots of goals - apart from matches in the first round obviously which are often rather tight anyways.

Watch this space.

Can't wait to see Tae-Se score against the Brazilians to night for starters.

PS Absolutely delighted for Winston Reid today, played for the Danish U21-team four months ago and now he's a Kiwis favourite.

I'm just watching the highlights on BBC and the 'bigger' games.

I've only seen two 90 minute matches: England VS USA, and Germany VS uh, someone, and I don't feel like I've missed much

I probably won't get into it until the quarters.

1990 was hardly great to be fair. I think england cameroon was the only game where both teams scored more than one.
[/quote]

Compared to 1990, widely regarded as a poor World Cup, this tournament has about 50% the number of goals at the same stage.

it's not just the goals either, it's the total lack of chances/action. there's been loads of 1-0s & 1-1s that have played out like goalless draws, saved by the odd fluke or goalkeeping error.
