One of the best world cups, in fact the last great word cup imo.
And certainly the last time England played well. I liked Hoddle, he dropped Beckham and Owen and had no interest in what he was told to do, he did his own thing.
Yep. Hoddle had us playing good footy & resisted the media/FA pressure to play 'stars'.
Had other managers since followed that example we'd have definitely performed better. Taking Rooney when he was injured immediately springs to mind but the entire squad selections have often been driven by the need to fit individuals in at the expense of an actual team.

2014, 2010 and 2006 were all shit.
And since Norway never qualified for anything since, one of the newspapers here decided to arrange a rematch between the Norway team who beat this Brazil team. If anyone want to see these guys 20 kg heavier I really hope this is the only chance... it is worth to mention that the same day they announced the rematch they also had 13 (!!) pages in the papers about things related to what these guys does now and other stuff... amazingly it is one of the "serious" papers. My father got two ticks from my sister in birthday present and is struggling to find someone to take one.

There's always one shite pop 'summer' tune that's not an official WC song that gets used continually & I have a horrible feeling it's gonna be that one, forcing me to mute the TV every time.

The unnofficial tunes of the world cup are the BBC and ITV classical openings.
I dont think about the pop shite commissioned world cup song when I think of a world cup I think of Ode to Joy or Nessun Dorma.

I agree with Fabs, I think its going to suck. No Italy and Holland doesnt help. All these 0-0 and 1-1s in friendlies are giving me the heebs as well.
On the plus side there are a LOT of shit teams so should see some good cricket scores. And there are also no clear standout teams who will win.
Germany, France, Spain and Brazil look the strongest but it could be any of them. Throw in the boringly functional Portugal, Argentina and all their amazing forwards and the Belgian wildcards. It COULD be fun.
Biggest worry. Russia are shit and go out at the group stages. Tourneys are always shit when the hosts go out early.

Just been setting up my temporary garden tv plan whilst it's nice & sunny so I can test its effectiveness.
The one benefit of having a mostly North facing garden is that there's a portion of it always in the shade.
That combined with an old matte style lcd tv that's usually in the toy room which has a remarkably high brightness level, a fire stick & the BBC & itv showing all games online all mean I can actually successfully watch the TV outdoors & enjoy what little sunshine we get whilst I watch the games.
I am so looking forward to this tournament. It best not be shite.

I've been debating it for the last six months.
Decided to wait a while longer, I have a 50" set currently & whilst it seems pretty small now it has a brilliant picture in terms of colour reproduction & very miminal motion blur due to a 100hz refresh, & no 60"+ that I can afford gets close to it & none of them tick the all important HDR, 10 bit panel or 100hz refresh boxes.
It may sound like a lot to ask but the way prices are plummetting I think I'll be able to get a 60/65" HDR full 10 bit panel with native 100hz refresh, if wait another two years, for under £800.
May just manage to get in time for the next Euro's, which would be nice.
Also, this is a shite time to buy TV's, for obv supply/demand reasons.
I used to always have one in the bedroom, I used to love relaxing on a weekend morning in bed with a cup of tea while watching a bit of tv. I haven't done that in ages, partly because Greek tv is crap and partly because of the kid. So, we've only had one tv for fucking ages now. It's new enough and still pretty decent so there's no chance the missus will agree to get an upgrade, but I might, just might get her to agree to getting a small one that could perhaps go into the bedroom...
Ahh, that's a different matter. We have a 50" living room tv, 42" toy room tv, small 19" dining room TV for occasional use (not out all the time cos kids would want it on during tea) 42" bedroom TV & Luke has his own 32" to allow him to shout abuse at his friends whilst playing Fortnite.
So we're covered.
Dunno what the market there is like for used TV's but here you can pick up older tiny (19") TV's for £10/20 regularly on Gumtree & older 42" TV's for less than £50, if it's for the bedroom you dont need 1080p or small frame so an older model would do just fine for watching matches when the wife wants to watch whatever it is women like to watch, like reality tv or talent shows.
