Have you ever been called into work to kill a man?
I can now add that as the cap on what has been a really bizarre year. Had to come in this AM despite being on vacation to sign off on the meds for a medical assistance in dying procedure.
The gentleman has probably passed on by now and I hope he's in a better place.
Other things that happened:
Set new personal records for revenue in my various businesses - January
Worked myself into chronic burnout - Feb/March
Decided to wind up my coaching practice - April
Turns out the burnout was an unrelenting flare of my ulcerative colitis - May/June
Hired for a job in a completely different career path on the opposite side of the Canadian Arctic - June
Move across Canada. Twice - August/September
Start new job. Adjust to life in a place that's best described as a third world country on Mars. Have no idea what's going on. - September/October
Autoimmune related burnout and depersonalization - Nov/December
New meds, rest, recovery. And darkness. So much darkness. Like literally almost no sunlight. - December
Complete meltdown - 3 days ago
Half day virtual meditation retreat and psilocybin. Complete reframe. - 2 days ago
And despite all that, Google Photo's annual recap showed me that there were so many bright spots, with friends, family, pets, relaxation, outdoor wonder and more.
What seemed to be perhaps the most challenging year I've ever faced was in fact coloured by beautiful moments throughout.
Here's to 2025 being slightly less weird.
How was your 2024?
