With all fit and starting a season. Its pretty hard to do.

Reina

Gj Carra Agger Insua

Lucas Masch

Kuyt Gerrard Maxi

Torres

. You can throw in your favorite with our skWAD too.

Re: The wha 😉 YOU think Rafa's best XI would be!

Easy imo.

With Rafa's formation

-----------------------Reina-----------------------

GJ-----------Carra-----------Agger----------Aurelio

Kuyt-----------Masher-----Gerrard------------Reira

-----------------------Yossi----------------------

----------------------Torres----------------------

Mine would be

----------------------Reina-----------------------

GJ----------Carra------------Agger---------Aurelio

Gerrard--------Masher------Aquaman-------Reira

---------------Torres------Kuyt-----------------

Thats what I think is Rafa's best XI. I want to know some of yours though.
[/quote]

Going to bed now. My opinion will be forthcoming. Lucas and Insua will not be featured.

At the moment

Carra----Hyppiagkos---Skrtel----Insua

Mascher-----Stevie G.

Maxi/Degen--------Aqua--------------Albert

Dirkus Circus

Injury free

Glenn Jo------Skrtel-----Agger--------Aurelio

Mascher----------Aqua

Kuijt-------------Gerrard-------------Alberto

Fernando

As much as it pains me to say it, I think our current best 11 has to include the Greek. We look incredibly vulnerable without an aerial presence in our defence and he's made a big difference in that respect. I would also like to think that some regular game time would see Aquilani displace Lucas. Lastly, I'd probably stick with Insua at left back as he looks infinitely better with Riera there. Therefore, I'd go with:

-----------------------Reina-----------------------

GJ------------Carra-----------The Greek-------Insua

----------------------Masher-----------------------

Kuyt------------------Aquilani-----------------Reira

----------------------Gerrard----------------------

----------------------Torres----------------------

That leaves a couple of decent options on the bench in Yossi and Maxi. I was tempted to leave out Carra in favour of Agger, and wouldn't be against it in principle. I'm beginning to think that this may be Carra's last season as a mainstay in the Liverpool team. I think it's become quite clear that it should be one of our current batch, plus a significant aerial presence. Currently, that's the Greek but going forward I would expect to see a much younger and more dynamic version brought in.

I can't believe anyone would choose a best XI without Yossi in it, especially given the chronic state of his 'competition'.

Reina

Magic - Carra - Zorba - Aurelio

Mascherano - Gerrard

Kuyt - Yossi - Riera

Torres

For home games I want a team of ball-players...................

------------------------------------Reina-------------------------------------

Johnson------------Skrtel---------------------Agger-------------Aurelio
---------------------------------Mascherano---------------------------

---------Aquilani-----------------Gerrard---------------Rodriguez--------
------------------------------Benayoun--------------------------------

----------------------------------Torres-------------------------------------

For away games Kuyt comes in for Aquaman or Maxi.

Heh, well, my choice may have been slightly futuristic (or just hopeful that Aqua would find his feet given the chance), but I also think it's handy to have a spark off the bench in case plan A isn't working.

last season's team, except Glen Johnson replaced Arbeloa and Aquilani replaced Alonso

------------------------------------Reina-------------------------------------
Johnson------------Carra---------------------Agger-------------Aurelio
------------------------------Mascherano------------------------------------
-------------------Gerrard---------------Aquilani--------
------Kuyt----------------------------------------------------Riera
----------------------------------Torres-------------------------------------

It would be if we had better players to start with, yes.

I would like to try:

-----------Torres
Babel------------------Yossi
---Gerrard------Aquilani
----------Mascher
Insua Agger Carra Johnson
-----------Reina

but Rafa's is probably:

-----------Torres
--Riera--Gerrard--Kuyt
-------Lucas Mascher
Insua Agger Carra Johnson
------------Reina

Yes, this is about right.

However, Purple's place isn't really merited yet, so perhaps Casper or Maxi could come in centrally or on the right, with Kuyt moving across to play in support of Torres.

But personnel-wise, yep, close enough.

Much agree.

I'd probably pick Insua instead of perma-injured Aurelio.

Yeah, I'd agree, the only one really up for debate is left back. Plus Kyriakos maybe deserves a shout on form, but probably not in the long term. Benny is first choice to come on too.

Yossi can replace Kuyt during his off-form period, which occurs every 6 to 9 months.

GJ is a shite RB...doesn't stop any crosses....but might be a good RW. Zorba wins headers....WINNER!

How about

Reina

Carra Skrtel Zorba Insua

Johnson Masha Gerrard Riera

Yossi

Torres

That team has a reassuringly solid look to it.

What has Aquilani done to get in people's teams ahead of Yossi? Any first XI that doesn't include Kuyt and Yossi is excluding two of our only four serious goal threats, and is thus WRONG.

It was based on last season's team sheet, just assume that Aquilani is able to replace Alonso (that was what Rafa think, we'll have to wait and see).

It would be crazy to omit Alonso from the starting line-up after last season's showing.

That makes no sense at all, you know. Plus Yossi started in almost all of our matches during that purple period when we thrashed everyone.

I think that was the time when Gerrard was injured and Yossi was his deputy. I like Yossi, but I think his best position is either occupied by Kuyt or Gerrard currently.

The problem is trying to fit them all in a coherent team. Your formation has our second biggest goal threat playing a deep lying midfield role rather than the advanced position that saw him score so freely last year. While I do agree that Yossi's best position would probably be behind the striker, I know who I'd rather have there of the two. And I'd also rather play Kuyt on the right because of the protection he offers to the marauding Johnson, otherwise we could end up horrible exposed on that side.

And I would also agree that Aquilani probably doesn't merit a place in our current best eleven. I'd like to think, though, that if given a chance to settle in the team, it would become our strongest eleven. Of course, I realise there was some artistic license involved there, but I think it's worth persevering with. Yossi and Kuyt could be largely rotated according to opposition and form anyway. The important thing is that we never see Yossi on the left.

I agree about Yossi on the left. As for the rest... I guess I'm just less optimistic than you re Aquilani. I don't think he'll make it as a CM in the English league - and he doesn't score enough goals to be useful in the second striker position.
