...might be offski at last.

Skysports.com understands Birmingham are ready to rekindle their interest in Liverpool's Ryan Babel.

Birmingham tried to sign Babel during the January transfer window, but failed to agree a deal with Liverpool.
Blues boss Alex McLeish is thought to be a big admirer of the Dutchman and is ready to revive his attempts to lure him to St Andrews.
McLeish has been frustrated in his attempts to sign Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia and could now turn his attentions to Babel to fill the left-sided midfield role.

Babel's future at Liverpool looks uncertain with the 23-year-old failing to live up to expectations at Anfield.

Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on Babel to help raise funds for potential new signings for whoever becomes the club's new manager.

Fixed.

Although it would be just our luck if McLeish actually manages to turn him into a player of sorts.

I still think Babel could be a good player with a manager that lets him practice attacking football in training.

The guy is a useful addition to the dutch squad. That he dont fit into Benitez tracking back and cover space regime is no surprise. The mistake was to sspend ahuge chunk of money on a player not fit for your system, and not filling in was the type of player you are looking for.

Pack that shite in please Paddy

i think we should keep him unless we get a decent offer...

His future depends a lot on the style of our next manager... If Capello or someone similar joins then he may as well leave..

if a manager comes in... builds his confidence and reduces his defensive duties we may well see a goalscoring machine.

He has some excellent abilities that need to be harnessed.. His pace, skill and shooting are all very impressive. He is very good at taking early shots with minimal backlift and he tends to scare the shit out of defenders and is likely to open up more space for Torres. The negative aspects of his play were always on show with Rafa.. his poor positioning.. defending and team work.

Perhaps a string of constant games would give him what he needs...

Nobody can deny that he is some what of an enigma. If a manager gets the best out of him there is no reason why he cannot be as influencial as Asprilla was for Newcastle.

That comparison is truer than you know. The Toon were leading the title race till Asprilla arrived, then it all went to f'ck.

Babel has all the natural talent a top player needs. What he doesn't have are the balls and the backbone. Wenger was interested in him LONG before we signed him, but ultimately didn't make a bid. I reckon we've seen why not during his time with us.

Babel was very promising for us during his first season. Especially in the spring when we settled into a 4-2-3-1 system that really worked.

After that he has really had no trust from the manager to put together three games in a row. He has been branded sub by the manager and never seen by him as something else than a second or third option. To be fair to Ryan he has probably been involved in more goals than any of the options we have had in is his position, but we all know that goal treath was never anything Rafa based his team selections from. Ryan may very well step up and be a good player for us.

Similar to Cisse - the guy had an eye for goal but stood no chance of cementing a first team place. While i wanted players capable of adding more to the team as a whole the complete shambles of last season had me wishing for Cisse and Baros upfront.

Well, trust has to be earned. I would agree to an extent that Rafa didn't give Babel an entirely fair opportunity to earn it, in that he got dropped too often after promising performances, but there were too many times when he did get a chance and simply didn't show OR wasted opportunities with far too casual an approach. I'm afraid your final sentence seems to me like a triumph of hope over experience. If we get a suitable offer (i.e.close to what we paid for him) I'd much sooner have the money for the new manager to spend.

Show me which red who didnt have average performances, some of them week in and week out for the whole fucking season, without being dropped. Footie is a a game were confidence is very important.

Ryan has been given opportunities and has regularly failed to come up with the goods..

however,

He is clearly a player that thrives on confidence and is extremely direct. He is a bit too stupid to think of Football in anyway other than in its simplest form - The one who scores most wins.

I dont think he was ever comfortable with Rafa... He came across like a player trying to improve but his personality and maturity simply did not suit Rafa's style. Which makes the signing one of the most questionable decisions during Rafa's reign.

Isnt that a lovely approach??? 😉

Other "shite" players who had nothing to do contains among others todays french Captain Alou DIarra. We might be to harsh on the younger players expecting them to play with a mature head at the age of 20-23

Arsenal are rumoured to be considering a bid for Liverpool winger Ryan Babel as they look to take advantage of the uncertainty at Anfield to capture a player that Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of. The 23 year old Dutch international has failed to impress in three seasons on Merseyside and has been linked with a move away from the club as they look to garner funds from player sales.
Many clubs have been linked with moves for the former Ajax man with Birmingham City stumping up a sizeable bid for the talented but inconsistent performer. As yet no offer has been high enough for Liverpool to consider accepting but given that the Gunners have money to spend this summer they may well be able to make an offer that is hard to refuse.
Christian Purslow has stated that no players will be sold until a new boss is appointed but when that vacant position is filled a move from the north London club may well get near to the £10-12m valuation the club has placed on their misfiring star.
Ryan Babel’s long term friend Robin Van Persie will no doubt be keen to see his countryman join him at the Emirates and given that Wenger is looking to bring in established experienced players in to help end a five year silverware-less streak then a move for the Amsterdam born speed king.

Funny how no-one seems to think Yossi hasn't been given a chance?

Well, it could be argued he was never given a chance from the start because is best position is one in which somebody better than him was already playing.

However, luckily for him, he's not bad on the right.

Unluckily for him, he's shit on the left.

I can't be arsed to find the stats of how many games he played on the left this year, but I'd be willing to bet it was the majority.

All that said, going on what's above, I suppose you could argue Babel's had the same treatment, being played out of position and the like, but I'd rather see the back of Ryan than Yossi, as Yossi is just generally a better player.

Selling him for £5M or even £7M would be a bad bit of business IMO, we need more creativity, not less

Babel probably played more on the left than anywhere else while in Holland, and still plays there more often than not when he's picked for the national team. There are genuine criticisms to be made of the way Rafa handled Babel, but playing him on the left isn't one of them.

I wasn't actually implying that Yossi hadn't been given a chance, I was showing they have both played almost identical apperances, and no one thinks Yossi hasn't had a chance to prove himself.

Yossi plays his heart out, he is busy and always trying.

Bable looks uninterested isn't busy and doesn't always try, he is a lazy fucker with his head up his arse.
