The rest are easily replaceable. That's our biggest issue.
Would love to have Sturridge if it wasn't for his injury ridden history.

Lallana is vital to how we play. Along with Mane and Coutinho there is no one else I would keep more.

I wouldn't be putting Clyne on an untouchable list, after this season. He's not been as good.

Lallana & Firmino have had great seasons, Can has been very good for the last few months also, there is certainly alot of promise there going off his recent form.

"Easily replaceable" is a massive exaggeration, those three and the likes of Henderson (if fit) will have a huge part to play next season, Milner and Mignolet too.

Our biggest issue(s) is that we can't defend certain situations and that we lack depth. It's not a question of the bulk of what we have not being good enough, we just need to add to the quality we already have.

These are the keepers for me, accounting for actual form this season, rather than some daft preconception about quality tiers and only those near the World Class bracket being worth bothering about.

Mignolet
Clyne
Milner
Matip
Can
Henderson
Wijnaldum
Lallana
Mane
Sturridge
Coutinho
Firmino

Then outside that you have a few players who are worth keeping to up the quality of the actual squad

Lovren (he does a job and has more often than not been quite good this season
Origi (he's young and worth working on)
TAA (ditto, he's looked decent)

That's fairly thread bare but the basis of a really good team and squad. If we add what most of us know that we need, then we're on the right track.

It's not really time to he starting to get rid of the players who've contributed well this season. It's time to add to them and get rid of the deadwood like Lucas, Moreno, Klavan and Karius.

I don't really get the point of the thread, is it to be dismissive of a couple of pet hates. Because it's not really time to he starting to get rid of the players who've contributed well this season. It's time to add to them and get rid of the deadwood like Lucas, Moreno, Klavan and Karius.
It's not about who we keep it's mainly about positions we can and in some cases should improve on.
So it's basically about openings in our starting line up.

Clyne has been very solid defensively all season.
I'd see him as a part of our spine, but hopefully TAA will be pushing him for a starting place soon.

We got more pressing issues regarding the left full back position.

I mean hes hardly got a spine but it looks as though studge wants to stay.until chuffing off to the states or china for a big payday

"There is nothing to discuss really," he told Sky Sports, when asked after the match if he would still be at Liverpool next season. "I have two years left on my deal and I am happy here

Only Coutinho and Mane for me. Matip seems very injury prone so i don't see how he can be part of the spine and Clyne has been hit and miss this season

Clyne - solid about his defensive work but seriously the guy frustrates the shit out of me. You can put your mortgage on him passing backwards at any point in a game and he 90% of the time will pass it backwards.

You have to sell sturridge. You'll get good coin for a player who's best days have passed and who will never be fit because he's captain psychosomatic.

For me its simple right now - when looking at consistency of performance overall throughout the season and also accounting for availability:-

Matip
Coutinho
Mane

Players who have been consistent in doing their jobs most of the time - but can be considered replaceable spine bones:-

Milner
Clyne
Can
Gini

I would leave Ming in the team and if he does well as he has been doing since coming back in then we have a good enough keeper we can trust now.

Top players - Mane cout Firmino Lallana

good post. Folk thinking we are gonna have some mass clearout are gonna be disappointed.
This team is much better than they're getting credit for.
It's lacking some top talent and some real leaders who can drive the team and keep them calm when needed and aggressive when it's called for.
Three or four top signings will make all the difference.

I don't think we need to ship too many out, we just need to buy 3 - 4 bonafide first teamers to push them down the pecking order. A goal scoring forward, a midfielder, a centre back and a left back.

Our spine in 2009: Reina, Carra, Agger(Hyypia), Mascherano, Xabi, Gerrard, Kuyt, Torres. Comparing that team with this one, basically only Coutinho and Mané would cut it.

There have been a good few rumours that we're shopping for a right back, I'm not sure how happy Klopp is with him.

Honestly I haven't been super impressed with Matip either.

Mane Coutinho and lallana are the untouchables from this season imo

Our first 11 is pretty good. I would however drop Lovren to the bench and buy a proper center + left back.

In the last 5 crucial matches Lovren has shown us he has a mistake or two in him every game with brain fart moments. All the huff and puff aggressive routine doesn't help. We need calm and guile, Matip has been a good addition in that aspect.

Only Coutinho and Mane for me. Matip seems very injury prone so i don't see how he can be part of the spine and Clyne has been hit and miss this season
27 PL starts and 2 sub appearances on his way back from injury doesn't indicate injury prone. He came to us injured pre-season and so missed games.

I personally think that Gini is an untouchable at this point.

There's obviously still plenty of room for him to improve his game in, for starters he needs to become more visible in games over the course of 90 minutes, however I see him as an integral part of Klopp's system as the ever so important balance in midfield. I really, REALLY, like him as a footballer and think he can become one of the best midfielders around in a few years time if he can continue to build on his flaws.

More than likely Barca and Madrid will come calling for one of either Coutihno, Mane or Firmino. There goes our spine. ..

I dont agree - and I'm a big Gini fan.

I think hes the one under the greatest pressure from Coutinhos desire to move to a deeper role, and therefore will def need to keep improving if hes to be in the best XI next season. Aside from his pretty lacklustre end to the season (aside from the goal yesterday!) ont he basis of his form earlier in the year hes still going to have to find more consistency, and stop going missing in matches he should be influencing

Who are our game winners? You know, the ones who score when we desperately need it?

Coutinho, Mane, & Lallana are the most capable of that, but unfortunately, none of them does so on a regular basis.

I'd be interested to know the reason for Coutinho & Can not travelling to Australia with the rest of the squad.
