Yes, Mo, they are. This whole thing is ridiculous. For one thing "yid" is actually Yiddish for "Jew". For another, the Tottenham fans are making a positive out of it with this chant of theirs, a kind of "Jewish and proud of it" thing. Nobody seems too bothered about black folks using "nigger" among themselves in the same way. How is this different?

Well clearly its because they are not black!

Ha. I meant that the Society of Black Lawyers, by definition, are not a bunch of crackers, pejoratively speaking.

I hope they go through with their complaint, so that either the police can tell them to bugger off and grow up or it can be laughed out of court.

I agree with this. It's a pity nobody made a complaint to the police at the time of the Suarez incident, because the case was so weak it probably wouldn't have even got to court. The FA could well have gone ahead with their own inquisition system as they did in the Terry case, but their argument would have inevitably been weakened after a proper court had thrown it out.

The "Kick It Out" organisation currently has an online questionnaire for fans to complete with their opinions on racism in football.

I think it would be good if people like myself, who think that this subject is being hysterically over-hyped, complete the questionnaire - without criticising the "Kick It Out" organisation which does a lot of good work at grass roots level.

After reading the first few posts on this thread, I scanned through the rest and was surprised that no-one had made the cracker joke already.

Now I see why.

Thank fuck for Fabio.

Portly - brilliant work unearthing that link. I have completed it in exactly the way you describe.

Thanks Jules - I thought it was quite a fair questionnaire that allows the respondent to give their opinions without trying to bias the results with loaded questions.

That in turn will take you to the link headed "Put A Sock In It".

When I click on the section entitled "Have Your Say" with a pic of a football crowd, it takes me straight to the questionnaire.

You must be using some weird computer made in North Korea.

I've applied for a job with these guys. I'm not black or a lawyer or anything but I reckon with so much positive discrimination going on then I'm in with a good shout.

The chairman of the Society of Black Lawyers has criticised Chelsea for not going to the police with their allegations about Mark Clattenburg.
Peter Herbert's organisation asked the Metropolitan Police to investigate whether there was a racially-aggravated element to the "inappropriate language" Clattenburg allegedly used to Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel

during last month's game against Manchester United.

Chelsea

lodged an official complaint with the Football Association,

but neither the club nor Mikel went to the police with their claims and the investigation has now been dropped.
Herbert told Sky Sports News: "What seems to have happened is that although Chelsea made a report to the FA they've decided, in their infinite wisdom, not to submit the same papers to police.
"It appears on the face of it to be another example of the football industry seeking to sweep racism under the carpet.
"If there is anything we can do to put pressure on the victims concerned to go forward to the police with this matter, then we'll do that.
"It highlights the fact that football can not regulate itself and really, on this issue of race, always wants to take the path of least resistance."
Herbert believes a thorough police investigation would also be in the best interests of Clattenburg, who has not been charged with any offence and strongly denies any wrongdoing.
He said: "Given the publicity this engendered it's fair for all concerned, including the person who's alleged to have made the comment, that justice is seen to be done and it's not dealt with by the FA internally."
But a Chelsea official later told Sky Sports News the FA is the appropriate body to deal with the complaint, and its decision on whether to charge Clattenburg is expected by the end of the week.

I just can't understand why they're so adament that something occurred here , especially considering they have admitted to having no proof , just what they have seen in the media . And what the fuck has this got to do with them anyway . Somone needs to bitch slap both them and the idiot media who keep going to them for stories.

Mark Clattenburg: Chelsea & FA accused of cover-up

Chelsea and the Football Association have been accused of a "cover-up" for not referring alleged comments by referee Mark Clattenburg to the police.
The Metropolitan Police has dropped its investigation into a complaint that Clattenburg used "inappropriate language" towards two Chelsea players.
The complaint was made to the police by the Society of Black Lawyers.
"It sounds remarkably like a football cover-up," the society's chairman Peter Herbert told BBC Radio 5 live.
Mark Clattenburg timeline
28 Oct: Sends off Ivanovic and Torres, as Chelsea lose to Manchester United. Accused of using "inappropriate language" to two Chelsea players - John Obi Mikel and Juan Mata. Chelsea complain to Premier League delegate.

29 Oct: Offered full support of referees' union, but is stood down for next round of matches. FA starts investigation, Society of Black Lawyers sends a letter to the Metropolitan Police calling for a legal investigation.

30 Oct: Met Police begin investigation.

31 Oct: Chelsea lodge formal complaint with FA over Mikel but decide not to pursue allegations against Juan Mata.

13 Nov: Met Police drop investigation.

"It sounds remarkably like the football industry wanted to have this issue swept under the carpet."
Chelsea made a formal complaint against Clattenburg on 29 October following their 3-2 home defeat by Manchester United.
A day later the FA opened an investigation into the allegation, part of which was that Clattenburg used racial language.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police began its own probe based on a written complaint by Herbert - not Chelsea or the FA.
It is understood Chelsea did not give evidence to the police because they felt the FA was the appropriate body to deal with the matter.
On Tuesday, the police investigation was discontinued because "no victims have come forward" and "without a victim and/or any evidence that any offence has been committed, the matter cannot currently be investigated".
The FA confirmed its investigation would proceed, but Herbert is furious that neither the governing body nor Chelsea have taken the matter to the police.
"We strongly suspect that the FA and/or Chelsea have failed to provide this information to the Metropolitan Police in order for them to conduct a proper investigation," he said.
Who is Peter Herbert?

BBC sports news correspondent
"It's hard to believe that just a month ago very few in the sport had even heard of The Society for Black Lawyers. Now the organisation and its chairman are front and centre of the game's discourse."

"The information we had is that there are 'no victims'. Well, if there are no victims, what on earth has been referred to the FA in the first place?
"What on earth are the FA and Chelsea playing then? Are they having some cosy exchange of statements between themselves and not giving it to the police?
"We're going to ask the borough commander for an explanation. Was there any co-operation? Was any evidence given? If none was given by the FA or Chelsea we want to raise that issue with the Minister of Sport."
Herbert is particularly critical of the FA's decision not to involve the police once Chelsea made their complaint.
"If the Metropolitan Police are not provided with statements what are they supposed to do?" he added.
"If a football club has registered a complaint with the FA, we would expect the FA to refer this matter to the Metropolitan Police.
"The FA does not have the tools to investigate race-hate crime. We think that until the FA gets its house in order complaints like this should be investigated by the police.
"It really does beggar belief that the primary football authorities in the country do not understand the seriousness of hate crime."

Theirs is the exact same "never mind justice, all that matters is making a fuss about racism" mentality which led to Luis Suarez' ban.

Fucking hell, they object to that but not to some of the other stuff you tweet?!

Hahaha, bizarre. I'd assume all your followers you understand the the differences between satire & true offensive racism.

They might have been new. I got a load of followers coz of some throwaway comment about poppy day that got retweeted by academics and journos and might have made me seem like a spokesman for bleeding heart liberals. I guess they'll be off now then.

Perhaps Chelsea just maybe might have deduced that a police complaint would result in a not guilty verdict, so opted to stick with the balance of probabilities approach. Perhaps the society of black lawyers just maybe might have been taught everything they know about the law by Peter McFuckwit McCormick.

This Peter Herbert chappie isn't actually interested in football. I heard him on the radio on the Sunday morning after the alleged Clattenburg incident. He said he didn't watch football, but somebody rang him up and told him about Chelsea's allegations.
