Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to demand that Allen is sold and you are saying he should be kept. Not so long ago, you were probably saying Poulsen must be sold and I was demanding that he was killed in an insurance scam. Times are definitely better than they used to be.

he should be. he's properly gonna drag us down if he sticks around for a few years.

I'd be careful about what I say about Allen....there is potential there I'm afraid.
This coming from someone who usually is quick to criticise players.

Yeah, fantastic idea that. Sell two young players that have been injured and underperformed.
We'll get a trillion euros for both
Allen has played almost 30 times for Liverpool and has looked 'promising' in 10 of those matches, I don't buy the line that he has been injured since Oktober and that is the reason for his decline in form, what company would risk a multi-million pound asset every week in the hope he can pull off that Hollywood pass that gets you a goal. He passes sideways or backwards(last years Henderson, who is my candidate for the most improved player) or is bundled off the ball, not good enough for a £15m midfielder at Liverpool.

Didnt both Owen and Torres say that we had frequently played them while knowing that they were carrying injuries, I dont think its that uncommon, Arsenal seem to do it all the time, Wilshire never seems to recover from an injury before being put back in the first team. I certainly remember Rooney playing for Utd when he was pretty much on one leg

So people want to get rid of Riena, Skrtel, Coates, Agger, Johnson, Enrique, Lucas, Allen, Shelvey, Suso, Downing & Borini - and Carraghers retiring.

Going to be a busy summer then what with us needing 7 new first team regulars.

Hmm - we may not have any choice where Pepe is concerned. I think those I've crossed off will be traded in one way or another but I don't see the others leaving, two new CBs (Carra and Skrtel) means Coates wil stay.

How do you work that out? Coutinho will be in the front 3. Allen will be in midfield with gerrard and lucas.

I think it refers to the fact that Rodgers might actually play him in the centre of the attacking 3 on occasion, where Coutinho has been playing.

He's said in past he sees Allens role being further forward.

When he said about his role being further forward, I personally took it as the furthest forward midfielder out of the 3. He said that while lucas was injured and allen was playing the holding midfielder role. He will never play in Coutinho's role.

.... which is where Coutinho is playing, isn't it?

The furthest forward midfielder is the one playing in between the 2 wide forwards & behind the striker.

The only thing I can suggest is that Allen "might" be a more defensive option to coutinho's more attacking presence.

I'm basing this on the 4231 we generally play, which could revert to 433.

Im more thinking of when we play 433. We would have the 3 in the middle of gerrard, lucas and allen, with the 3 attackers being suarez, coutinho and sturridge or downing depending on how rodgers sets us out.

But in the 433 scenario, surely Coutinho would have to play on the left - and it would mean Allen would be the one expected to get forward more.

Coutinho started quite a few games on the left of the three. He constantly came inside to put people through. He also played a decent role when holding his position on the left. Think he got an assist with his cross to Downing for a header. Even in that game he was coming inside loads.
With weaker opposition (that play with 11 men behind the ball) we can have Coutinho as the most advanced midfielder in the 4-2-3-1 formation but against the better sides I think he's a little too lightweight to be in there, and would be better suited as one of the three attackers in a 4-3-3.
I'm not advocating using Allen in the most advanced role though. Unless he seriously improves he'll be a liability as an attacking midfielder.
