This season is pretty much over for us as a contest with really nothing other than pride to play for.
I say we should use it to try and see if some of the younger players on the fringes are capable of playing a role if required to.
I would like to see Wilson get a run of games at centre half beside Carra.
I would also like to see Jonjo Shelvey get to play in his proper position in the middle rather than be shoehorned into a wide position.
And if there are any other young players who might be ready to make the step up, now is the time to try them out.

I'd put Soto up in the stands, thats for sure.

Use Flanagan, Robinson or Wisdom

Unfortunately, as long as there's a mathematical chance, I think we'll go with experience rather than youth to try and clinch the last European place. Spurs isn't helping by choking and keeping this torture lasting longer. Yesterday away to WBA was a chance to play Flanagan or Robinson, but instead we traveled there with 5 centrebacks. Next two games are Citeh and Gunners, so that's another two games where the youngsters won't get a crack.

I think we might put out a squad that looks like that for the remaining games assuming all the crocked guys are out for the rest of the season. Nevermind the lack of quality in the starting team. Look at that bench. Eye-gouging.

Reina
Carra Skrtel Wilson
Kuyt Lucas Spearing Cole/Maxi
Ming
Carroll Suarez

Subs: Gulacsi, Flanagan, Sotos, Poulsen, Maxi/Cole, Shelvey/Jovanovic, Ngog

I'm just saying, Spurs haven't won in their last 5 games. And not scored in their last 3.

Still, with our injuries at the moment I can't see this happening. Full team though, it would have been possible.

I'd prefer that either: (a) Spurs choked and we caught up to within a couple of points to really threaten, or (b) they outright opened up the gap and ended our hopes altogether.

In the first case, it lends greater meaning to the rest of the games and makes the decision to avoid using the youth and depending on mediocre starters instead more understandable and sufferable. In the second case, it'd just loosen the ropes and allow us to use the rest of the games for planning for the future and really shut out the guys who have no future here.

The way it's going, we're not good enough to close the gap, but Spurs aren't good enough to shut the door on us. We end up hanging on false hopes and postponing chances to expose the kids. It's the worst possible scenario. This could go on for another few weeks yet I fear.

Won't be surprised one bit if we went ahead and somehow beat Citeh, while the Spurs claimed 3 points as well to prolong the torture.

Without Gerrard?

We need Suarez and ming to step up to the plate for more or less every match and the other 9 to at least turn up to stand any chance.

If Agger and Johnson are out for a long time we're fucked, no matter how shite Spurs are.

Robinson should be given a chance at LB.
injured I think

I'd definitely play our youth captain Connor Coady. He seems to be a lot better and bigger than Spearing was at his age.
Promote Irwin and play him on the left.
Fuck's the point of having reserves if you don't use them in emergencies. Most of them are around 20.
Give Irwin a shot.

There is zero point in that fucking chomper Kyrgiakos ever playing for us again, so give some of the kids a go. We've got about 400 different young centre backs there, why not see if they can do it on the big stage?

I'd also rest the likes of Gerrard, Kuyt, Glenjo, etc. We know they can perform, why not give them a longer break and test out some of these kids?

I agree, we should be giving some of the untested kids a chance before the end of the season. It's a shame we didn't hold onto Pacheco and give him a run out instead of Maxi. I'm guessing he won't be at the club next season and his loan move is a shop window exercise away from Liverpool.

I hate Lucas.

That is all.
Y'know what's going to happen SG, Lucas will pick up a major injury in the last minute of our last game this season but he'll be fit to resume training 2 weeks before next season starts. Obviously he'll then be injury-free all season.

Unfortunately I agree with this. Doesn't advertise us well as a team that can develop promising talent

Maybe even let Sterling get a couple of apperances just to get a feel of what it takes to play in the Premier League.

If Kenny play the same midfield trio like against West Brom, forget about getting 6th place. We'll end up 16th.

Anyway, I'd prefer the onus to be on the style of play, not the actual players playing for the rest of the season.

We've got fuck all to lose, and our manger is under no pressure so why not see if we can get the ball down and play? Try and build a style of football though these players, as opposed to lumping the cunt out of it up to Carroll everytime.

I know we're shorn of wingers, creative midfielders, etc - but why not dole out instructions to try and play, and that route one should be a last resort. Give that message to the youngsters that come in too.

If we're ever going to have a free chance to try and play your way through the Premier League, this is it.

Pass n move Kenny; it's the groove n all that...

I'd like to see Ming played in behind Carroll with Suarez and Kuyt played as LWF/RWF. Ming seems to be completely ineffectual when played on the left of a 4-4-2 or tucked in with 4-3-3. He was doing great when played in an advanced role and was scoring great/important goals. The the case for Suarez playing in a more wide area is that he causes all sorts of problems with his dribbling and aggression out there. His run and assist against the mancs came from out wide on the left and his ace goal against sunderland came from wide right.

Home or away i'd like to see us line up like this until the rest of the season:

--------Spearing--Lucas

Kuyt--------Ming------Suarez

------------Carrol

Oh dear. These are the same formation as we played against West Brom last week...so whats the fucking difference??

Spearing and Lucas on the same fucking central midfield role is a recipe for disaster. Enough of that shit. If you want to play Lucas, play him with Meireles. Not Spearing. Spearing can sit on the bench. Get Maxi in for the left wing role at least he can make forward run and make a few shots on goal.

Fucking hell, you lot haven't change have ya?

Yup, he will make a lot of difference.

Nah, it wasn't the same formation at all. Meireles was nowhere near there box until the latter stages of the game when Suarez started to drift out wide. He almost scored if remember correctly when he did get near the box. Lucas and spearing are the only options we have in central midfield at the moment because Poulsen is one of the worst CM's to ever grace the team and Ming is too much of a chicken shit in the tackle. Please don't get me started on maxi playing out on the left, even if you are complete window licking water head you would be aware of his utter wank performances for us out there this season.

Wrong. It is the same formation with the same players. Meireles wasn't near the box because we were under attack. What should he do? Bloody hell.

The point i'm making is why the fuck do we need Spearing and Lucas both do the same fucking thing in the middle of the pitch? You get it? You don't.

We don't need both of them playing together. Let Lucas play there as the defensive midfielder, Meireles next to him and Gerrard which i believe will come back in against Citeh as our attacking midfielder.

If you want us to get beaten, yeah continue with you shit line-up. I hope King Kenny realised his mistake and won't play both of them together ever again.

I never said anything about the personnel I said it wasn't the same formation. Which it wasn't. Did you even watch the game? Suarez and Caroll were up top together most of the time. It was more akin to a 4-4-2 with Ming out left. He was anonymous as he has been all the other times he's played out wide. Are you trying to say we didn't have the ball in our possesion at any point during the game? That WBA were attacking the entire time? Obvously spearing and Lucas are not the ideal central midfield partnership but we have no one else, Gerrard is injured and as far as I know will be for the rest of the season as he broke down before the WBA game. So I dont know where your getting this notion from that he'll play on Monday.

Indeed. It would obviously look ten times better with our captain beside Lucas. As I said in the match thread, roll on the summer.
