ps i had that yellow kit.. ;D

Has to be IMO. Some other great players in that list (not that they all were), but for all-round excellence I can't see past Souey and Gerrard.

But if he's not been listed at any of the other positions, he has to be mentioned here doesn't he? He has to be an option somewhere.

4 people voted for Alonso? Which means they think that Alonso is better than one of either Souness or Gerrard....hmmmm.

I was one of those that voted for Alonso & Souness but only because I would have Gerrard on the right as I said in the I'm mister right side tread

Alonso is Molby without the goals 😉

I saw Molby play mate, he was excellent but to me he was Alonso carrying two sacks of potatoes because of his weight. Xabi's mobility meant he covered more ground, made more interceptions and was just better defensively. If Jan hadn't got the weight he could have been our best midfielder ever though.

I'm not sure about that... Xabi wasn't/isn't exactly the quickest either at running or turning etc.

Anyways, both fine players.

I do think he was better defensively than Molby though. FWIW at one stage he had some of the best tackling stats in the Prem. It's ironic, because we tried once or twice to play Molby as a sweeper, but that never worked.

being only a young tyke and not seen much of souness (on the whole), i thought i couldn't vote for him

Agreed both were excellent

I was thinking more along the lines of ground covered on the mobility front, neither were blessed with any pace, god bless em.

Alonso is Molby without the guts 😉
[/quote]

Jan Molby could play (and dicate) a whole match without leavign the centre circle (which he admirably filled). He lsot the pound when he was in Walton for a few weeks, but they came back pretty quick

Lucas is Alonso without an extra chromosome

Didi and Gerrard for me.

Haven't seen many of the legends, bar the odd clips, so there's fuck all point in me choosing them.

Alonso obviously deserves a good mention, but Gerrard has to be there and him Didi are a much better partnership.

This thread proves beyond doubt why it's folly to want to sell Gerrard, even if he is just 30.
