The Ideal Premier League

I got the idea from a German footy website where they did the same thing for the Bundesliga.

So what's your ideal Premier League? Which teams have to be in it and which not?

Here's mine:

1. Liverpool FC: Quite obvious.

2. Manchester United: They've got the history, they've got success in the present and are the team to beat right now. Hardly any team polarises as much as United. Love them or hate them. Nobody could argue against them being in an ideal Premier League.

3. Manchester City: They've got the momentum now. Lots of cash and one of the best squads at the moment.

4. Arsenal: They've also got a great history and are always one of the teams with the most entertaining style of football.

5. Chelsea FC: Like City one of the richest clubs in the world. They don't have the greatest of histories but meanwhile are one of the strongest teams in the Premier League.

6. Tottenham Hotspur: They've been in the top flight for decades and won some silverware now and then. The North London Derby is also something which belongs to the Premier League.

7. Everton FC: The Liverpool Derby - enough said.

8. Newcastle United: Despite getting relegated in 2009 and not winning anything for ages I think they belong to an ideal Premier League. They have a passionate fanbase and a quite high home attendances which can't be said about every actual Premier League club.

9. Aston Villa: One of the oldest and most successful teams in England. Simply has to be in an ideal Premier League.

10. Nottingham Forest: One of the clubs which wouldn't deserve to be in it based on their recent achievements but nobody can take away their history. For me, Forest has to be in it.

11. Leeds United: Having a large, passionate fanbase and having spent the biggest part of their history on England's top level qualifies them for my ideal Premier League.

12. West Ham United: The days when the Hammers were a force in England are long gone but they do have some history. But still they have a very passionate and large fanbase and a great youth system. For me they belong in an ideal Premier League.

13. Sheffield Wednesday: See Leeds.

14. Wolverhampton Wanderers: See Forest, even if their successes are even longer ago.

15. Sunderland: Having spent a considerable amount of time in England's top flight and having a big rivalry with Newcastle which results in great matches in the Tyne-Wear-Derby qualifies them.

16. West Bromwich Albion: The Baggies qualify for being one of the teams which have a great tradition. Founding members of the football league, 5 FA cups, champions of England once. They also have big rivalries with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton which is what an ideal Premier League also needs.

17. Portsmouth: Good fanbase, considerably good history. 2 FA cups, two time champions.

18. Southampton: They've been in the top flight for the majority of their history and have one FA Cup win. They've also got a rivalry with Portsmouth which results in the South Coast Derby.

19. Blackburn Rovers: Founding member of both the football league and the Premier League and the only team to win the Premier League apart from Arsenal, United and Chelsea.

20. Derby County: They are one of the oldest clubs, have 2 league titles, one FA cup and one semi-final in the European cup. They share a rivalry with Forest and Leeds which should result in a few more interesting matches in my ideal Premier League.

Honorable mentions to QPR, Coventry and Preston North End which didn't make my ideal Premier League for the one or other reason.

What's yours?

Remove Tottenham, burn them on a fire and bring in Norwich. I like Norwich, plus I think East Anglia deserves some representation.

Portsmouth!!!!

Fuck off.

That twat with the bells >🙁

Who else would you have in there?

I hate them, but Forest would merit it on history surely?
That's why I have them in there at number 10.

😉

If your basing some of those decisions on History, why do you only have 3 of the 12 founding members of the football league listed?

As you can see it's not only history that I take into account. I also try to base it on tradition, successes, fanbase, rivalry etc.

I can see where you're coming from though.

Just because they were founding members doesn't mean their history since is good enough to warrant inclusion surely?

Preston North End was HUGE when I was a kid, The untouchables, only equalled by Arsenal 70 years later (doing a season unbeaten) the first team to do the Double, founding member of the League.

They have done more than Fucking Newcastle and Portsmouth for starters!

Maybe so, but most peoples history doesn't go back quite as far as yours 😉

Granted that PNE has a great history. But as I said before, it's not only history I took account.

And it's an opinion, after all.

So how about you tell us about your 20 teams that should be in there?

Asbo remembers watching Newton Heath as a boy so he will probably have them in there for a start 😀

Everton are number 7.

Can't believe you didn't read it properly. FFS.

Yes. Some people...

*pretends to ignore Jack D Rips*

Wimbledon. There's a lack of craziness in the premier league, Balotelli is all well and good but it's nice to have a team of maniacs.

Celtic and Rangers

"runs"
Oh no he didn't! Though I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of a UK & Ireland Cup in place of the League Cup.

I'd include Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town in there somewhere.
Instead of whom?

You made a great selection of teams. I was merely throwing a few more into the mix that I have chosen purely on their successful past. Southampton, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday if I was pushed to make a decision. But if I was taking in other criteria I might be inclined to stick with your teams.

I don't. It's like the English Wales. Weird place.

Burnley??
lol yeah, they had a superb team during the late 1950s-early 1960s and not every team on that list can say they have reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup or the quarter-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and they have achieved both.

Two quarter-finals? It's a wonder they weren't up for team of the century with that record.
