So, sadly, the last few seasons we've really suffered through losing our best players for chunks of the season. It may be that this Australian doctor and associated medical staff are the most important signings we make. Can you see us shaking the injury curse, and if not, who can we expect to see with a horse placenta bandaged to their torn and pulled muscles?

Pick a player, and predict how many league games they'll miss through injury.

Torres - coming off the back of an annus horribilis and then through to the final at the WC (and continued training) but with no long break to relieve the constant stress on his muscles. Add to that mental stress re. stay or depart, and the pregnancy of his wife, so unless we get a flying start and look like we are going to be in the mix I can't see his heart being in it.

Re: The Horse Placenta Challenge

I'm with you Froggy. I'd love to see him put his injuries behind him, but if anything, I think he'll struggle more this year unless we have strong enough backup to rest him, and avoid rushing him back as we usually do. If we keep Torres a new striker is as important as if he goes. That said, if this Aussie is the miracle worker he's being made out to be, then we could be pleasantly surprised.

Hopefully Lucas, coz the way Roy is talking sounds like he's still gonna be in the first team picture!

Lucas is made from a fusion of kevlar and horse placenta.

Degen will probably be gone by the end of the summer.

As for the rest of this thread - stop it, it's depressing!

I'll go for Torres

While hoping this isnt true I shall ultimately bow down to your diagnosis Doc

I had to select Torres. Even if he is not actually "injury-prone," as our main goal threat he is subjected to a tremendous battering every game he plays.

Roland, if you think we're not going to be blighted by injury this season then say so, and why.

I don't think we will. We had a large injury crisis last year which exposed an already weak squad. It's unlikely to reach that extreme again, although I still expect to see Agger and Torres have a few problems.

Most injuries are preventable, and I'm hopeful that our new medical team will reduce the amount of time spent on the sidelines.

In the 30 odd years that I've supported Liverpool, we've never had such an injury crisis like the one last season. Its an anomoly. Doubt it would ever happen again.

Gerrard and Torres like most of the team suffered mostly muscle or tissue injuries as a result of being played too soon after injury or while injured. Rafa was desperate and we were always chasing results. It hurts us.

The new Aussie doctor and his team come with a big reputation. They've made sweeping changes backed by the club. New medical equipment and methods are bound to see us with a much reduced injury load. Roy is collaborating with the medical team and beefing up the squad. He is selling players not deemed good enough and the plan is to bring in better quality replacements. Stronger squad, improved result and a minimum of injuries is going to make a massive difference.

Only if you don't let the players out of the changing room. ;D

If most injuries are 'preventable' how come every single side in the Premiership has them?
[/quote]

Because like the Aussie Doctor has said, the Premiership is behind in terms of sport-science.

A lot of it will be a result of bad training methods, warm-ups, warm-downs, player laziness, poor player management, etc

Signing players like Aurelio and Aquilani doesn't help either, obv.

Pedant alert, it's Aquilani.

I'm glad someone has taken on board the subliminal instruction included in this thread.
