The Glory Pact

As members of DA, and its superior offshoot BA it is our job to plan for a great future.

I propose a pact for when we a) qualify for the cashcow league again, and b) when we win the league in 2014-15, that we all specify now what acts of youthful and middle aged madness we will do to celebrate this new dawn

Me first: I'm going to run with my body painted entirely red down 11th street in Manhattan. Gene will time me. That's for the league. For the CL I am going to smoke a cigar (history of asthma here).

How's about you. Remember - this is a gentlemans vow, don't commit if you can't keep your word.

I will happily eat a plate of my own steaming shit if we win the league under this manager.
I'm also confident this will never happen.

Ah Jesus lads, DHSC is offering to become a Dad, just because we win. You can do better than excrement. No more Fergie, No City manager, with Sturridge, Coutiniho and the other 2 amazing summer signings, we're back in contention, que no?

Why fucking bother then? Tedious, defeatist twat. As for the steaming shit, it won't be hard to serve up, just trawl through half your recent posts.

As one of the only one people still insisting we could win at halftime in the Attaturk as my mates told me I was crazy I would argue I'm not a defeatist in any way.
But thanks for calling me tedious and defeatist. Appreciated.

Show some of the same will and support then. There's nothing worse than someone who's already made his mind up and refuses to even acknowledge any improvement, which is basically what you've done in both of these threads. It's defeatist tripe.

I didn't feel defeatist on Sunday as I watched Carra walk round. I felt sad that another part of the game I used to love had left forever. And realistic about the chances we can be back rubbing shoulders with the real big teams and the rich men's hobbies that now feel out of reach. We need Rodgers to work real magic to get in amongst them, and I'm uncertain he can take us there. You are welcome to tell me I'm typing tripe, but defeatist? I don't believe I am being. I sing my heart out home and away (but let's be honest, it's away nowadays really) as that supports the men of the field representing us, I don't see how showing concern on a website forum is not supporting the club.

The problem is, we know Carra's a one off, whoever we bring in is going to find an impossible task on their hands of replacing the irreplaceable. Look at how Skrtel, Coates and to some degree, Agger, have struggled to fill Sami's boots. All we can do is look to the future and ultimately, stop judging players like for like, we need to build something for the future which may involve some degree of patience. I'm as upset as anyone that we've slipped so far, but I don't think that's Rodgers' doing and I do think the owners and Brendan are at least trying to shape a vision - regardless of how hapless they occasionally prove themselves to be, we've been backed well, we've played a fair amount of exciting football and we seem to be (slowly) moving in the right direction. We may have to persevere for a season or two with an experienced pro as back up, one that may well have fallen down the pecking order elsewhere, I can live with that as backup if it makes financial sense and supplements a view to the future, we can't spend big on every player and every rank of player, that's life and just being realistic about how far we can stretch our finances, which aren't by any means insignificant by today's standards.

Good post. I want to believe in the new plan and the new manager and the new team, but have been let down so many times now it's becoming harder and harder. And as football becomes less and less what I know and understand as the game I love, I become more conflicted about why I still give a shit. But there will be new heroes, and I'm sure I'll continue to blindly ignore their faults and will them on.

I guess the positive thing is that the slate has been wiped clean for alot of our competitors this season, whether that's a good or bad thing, time will tell, but it's as good a time as any to get back amongst the pack. Let's just hope, as you say, that it's not another false dawn.
