The famous front three

How do we call them? SMF? FMS? In any case, they've already scored 82 goals this season, according to Echo. And laid out a comparable number of assists, mostly to one another. In any case, there is no front 3 like them in the world football.

It's remarkable how Klopp managed to make them even more flexible and dangerous in the last few weeks. From Man United game onwards, Mane started coming infield much more, often receiving the ball in the position of a #10 – this didn't work too well at first, but now it's clear that this move helped to get Mane more involved in the build-up and sharply increased his productivity, without detracting anything from Salah and Firmino. And in the last 2 games (City away and Bournemouth) Salah started coming infield more to hold up the ball like "proper #9," using the fact that defenders now step off him and don't follow. This is the advantage of having a forward line made up of highly versatile players rather than "position specialists": each one of our front 3 can be at times a winger or a forward or a playmaker. The way they play keeps evolving from game to game and this is part of the reason why they have been so incredibly difficult for anyone to stop.

They're amazing, but we really need to start thinking about getting some back-up for them next year.

That's the worry. We've touched lucky keeping the 3 of them fit

Finding quality who's happy to be bench fodder is the issue

You've got to get a young WF, who's comfortable playing both flanks or even centrally on occasion.

That sort of player will get enough opportunities to contribute from the bench, and start whenever any one of the front three is injured/rested/suspended.

Ideally a young wf who could kick on and oust one of the front 3. Maybe spend big and say they're the long term plan

Pulisic, bailey, Brandt, havertz? Someone like that

Yep, exactly. Another favourite of mine is Cristian Pavon. He's like a right-footed young Dybala. Plays across the front 3, is only 21, and will be a mega star in 3 years time.

Wilson, Kent, Woodburn, Brewster. It would be nice to see at least one of these, perhaps a couple, really make a contribution and cement their place in the first team squad.
I've no doubt at least 2 of them will make an impact long term, but I think a lot of people are expecting a title push next year, which might be too soon for Brewster and woodburn.

Obviously they could make me look a tit as a lot of players do, but as things stands id like more of a guaranteed (as much as you can anyway) impact

You are correct...perhaps we need an experienced player who maybe expects to be started from the bench...giving others a rest...a quality front man who is over 30 but willing to give us 2 seasons maybe. I am talking about someone like a edin dzeko at Roma. Its working for them....do you guys think suarez has reached that stage ?

Suarez wage demands would rule him out. Also, his self confessed agility issues after that injury & over playing whilst injured/recovering issue would rule him out as well.

Luis Suarez is not the player who left us, despite still being an fantasic player.

+1

He's potentially a great fit and I read his release clause is under 30M.

Fox .. if wage demands were ok ... i would take a fantastic suarez to be on our bench anyday !!!!

You'd be mad not to. However at his age, as a footballer, to be confessing he's lost agility following an injury & demanding high wages (which he damn well would), when we seem to have a long term value approach to transfers, it's just screams 'no chance' to me.

How about that little tricky one that scored at old toilet against united for sevilla ?

Ben Yedder.
He did score there as well as against us. But other than scoring (...) I wasn't over impressed.
Also - Sevilla are not a fun place for shopping.

He is definitely looking the part.

The only issue might be the amount of time he is injured or am I confusing him with someone else? If Palace survive he won’t come cheap, else I think he is a very good fit for Liverpool

Zaha?

I'll pass on Zaha. For a few reasons

1. Ex Manc
2. He isn't exactly a young player with potential to grow further. He turns 26 this year - therefore is pretty much in his prime.
3. Despite being in his prime, and supposedly having the best season of his career, he's managed just 7 goals this season. That's not the output I want from a player who should challenge our amazing 3.

I think Zaha is a solid player, but I'd want someone with more potential.

United have Martial and Rashford. City have Sane and Sterling.

That's the calibre of young talent we need to be trying to add.

Bailey, Pavon, Pulisic etc fit the bill.

Is he 26 already? Still had him in the early 20s for some reason. His goals output has to be viewed in context for a couple of reasons. Crystal Palace don’t score much as a team and he is mostly played as a winger expected to put in crosses for the likes of Benteke. However agree that basis his age we should be looking at other options

Jesus, I also had him at about 23! Hmmm, best to pass.

I think we have to give a lot of praise to the scouting team who were instrumental in selecting Salah as the main target and convincing Klopp about the player. I've always felt Klopp has never fully warmed to him in the way the fan base have. Maybe that's simply because he doesn't like all the attention Salah is getting or it could be that he's not a Klopp player in some respects. If we had signed Brandt instead we wouldn't be in such a strong position. I'm pretty certain of that.

Brandt signed a new contract extension and wants to stay at Bayer and develop further. He would have been another good candidate.

We also need a good backup for Firminho. Not sure Ings is there yet. Solanke needs a year or two of loan. The players you mentioned will provide excellent backup and competition for the other two spots + Coutinho role. Werner would be ideal as a Firminho backup but he is too good to agree to challenge from the bench.
