Creating this because I think he's been thoroughly under-appreciated for what he's done this season.

Leads the squad in appearances made this season. Been an absolute work-horse since Klopp arrived, and has battled in every single game, even the ones we've been outfought and beaten.

I know he has he's prone to being very stupid at times, but it's worth remembering he's only 21. CMs don't generally hit their prime till they're 24/25.

Roy Keane at 21 was still at Nottingham Forest. Essien at 21 was still at Bastia. Makelele at 21 was starting his career at Nantes. Vieira hadn't broken into the Arsenal first team. Matic was in his first spell at Chelsea.

Can's performances have seen some highs and lows, but overall for his age, his work has been impressive. I also think that people don't appreciate how strong a talent he is - my prediction is that in 3 years, he'll be one of the best central midfielders in the league.

I thought Can had a very good game against Leicester yesterday. He may look clumsy at times, but he kept up the gegenpressing all the way through and was a major factor in stopping Leicester getting into the match.

Yeh, he's rough around the edges, but like you say he's 21, if the squad grows, he will grow too, and we have a potential worldy on our hands.

We get to see some of his more impressive skills in flashes - e.g. the pass for Studge vs Saints, some of his shooting etc. What impresses me most is his desire and fight - he is the closest we have to emulating the desire that Suarez had and I think that working alongside Hendo will help his game immensely. He might still be at the beginning of an upward trajectory but he is very much worth his place in this team already.

Yes. And I really think he's scratching the surface of his potential at the moment.

I see him developing into a Matic/Schneiderlin type at the very least. The ceiling is even higher - Petit, Redondo level perhaps. That of course may never happen, but I do think that's a potential ceiling. His technical ability for instance is really really good. There aren't very many DMs who have his touch on the ball.

I love the instinct when winning the ball is to charge forwards or spray it forwards if he has already spotted an option rather than just move it square to another team mate. He is deceptively quick off the mark when he has the bit between his teeth.

He's been using that to make that crunching recovery tackle quite often of late.

Here's a good video of his season so far.

Can is ace. He's also built like a tank and gives us a presence in midfield.
Wins loads of headers and is very strong on the ball.
You have to laugh at those calling him shite, its just about giving young players time.
The talent is obviously there and with Klopp in charge he's got a manager that can develop him into a world class player.

I like him but I'd like to see him play a simple ball more often after he's beaten someone on a surging run.

But I'm in his fan club.

I'm definitely a big fan of him. He's shown a lot of promise, talent and effort since he arrived at the club. We shouldn't be so reliant on him, but at the same time he's getting the game time he needs if he's going to become a top-class player. I'm going to enjoy watching him develop under Klopp's guidance.

Good thread, @dmishra. It's clear that Klopp has been able to motivate Emre in a way that Rodgers couldn't – from the very first game under the new manager the consistency of his work-rate just went up manyfold and never really dropped since. I wrote before that Can is one of the players who might benefit the most from working with Klopp – there is literally nobody else in world football with a better record of polishing rough German-Turkish midfield diamonds. Klopp did this with Śahin and Gündogan and now Can seems to be on the right track to becoming his 3rd similar success story. And I actually think he has a higher ceiling than the other 2.

I'm still not quite ready to view Can as part of the "spine" of the team rather than just a talented player who might go in and out of the team as his form fluctuates. But let's see where we are at the end of the season; Can has every opportunity to claim a place in the first team if he is indeed ready.

Nothing to do with Can but I find any excuse whatsoever to post this goal, one of my favorites. In a way it is similar to the can backheel but several levels higher, one simple trick to take everyone out of the game. I maybe biased because of the opposition.

This is one of my favorite moments in world football. What a player he was.

Who has literally the second best record in the world at polishing rough German-Turkish midfield diamonds?

Is there an obvious hierarchy?

This place is mad. If you started this thread after the Watford game you'd have been hounded left, right and centre and told you are an idiot.

For the record I'm a fan too but he is a long long long way away from being one of the best cm's in the league.

He's 21 ffs. Of course he's not one of the best. But he is going to be,

You are right of course but eventually he is going to be as boss as his hair.
