Was weaker than Jeremy Beedles handshake! The only player to really show some class off the bench was Yossi who, after last seasons finish, should have started.

Ayala....or was it Napoleon Dynamite is a Liverpool Strip.

Voronin???

I hope to god we spend and soon..............

Alas although disappointed, one game is not one season! Liverpool 2-0 Stoke

Its not a great reflection on what our back up is though.
On another day.
Cavalieri
riera
agger
n'gog
yossi
dossena
aquilani

The bench could look even weaker in mid-week if Kelly and Ayala are needed in the starting 11. Riera should be back though shouldnt he. Any news on Agger?

Anyone know why Ngog wasnt on the bench, was he carrying a knock or did Rafa just decide to go without him ?

Yossi and Aquilani should both be in the first XI, not on the bench. And Wash doesn't fill me with any more confidence than Voronin does.

He must be out. I can believe he would go with Shell Suit Voronin man over Ngog
Based on what? What has Wash ever done to make people think he'd any better than Voronin?

welcome shed fella.

We could have done with this season starting in September, injuries lack of fitness for Stevie ETC.

If we beat Stoke then we are up on last season as we also lost at the lane but drew with the long throw cunts.

It wouldn't be too bad if all areas of the starting 11 were rock solid, but as we know, they aren't.

We 'should' be ok for the League/Champs league if we can keep the key players fit. Then just use the dross for the cups.

Our squad does seem smallish especially in the attacking department, but it strikes me as if Rafa is depending on the flexibility of players like Kuyt, Yossi, Stevie and possibly Aqualini to make up for it.

Kuyt can play up front, behind the striker and to the right.
Yossi can play in any of the three positions behind the striker.
Gerrard can play in any of the three positions behind the striker and in midfield.... okay, okay he can probably play anywhere except in goal.
Aqualini can play in midfield and may be a decent option behind the striker too.

I actually think it's a perfect reflection of our squad depth because it goes to show that if we get hit by one or two injuries, we're having to fill our bench with youth players that we wouldn't like to depend on.

Hopefully we'll get a bit of luck and stay mostly fit this year.
Manchester Uniteds team yesterday included Foster, da silva, evans, o'shea, de laet, gibson and kuszczak.
You take 4 players out of any squad (chelsea aside) and you end up with a lot of unknowns and squaddie kids.
Our first team played like cocks thats the issue.

Both of those pair won though mate, so they don't need to flap too much about bringing someone off the bench to win a game.

R Babel D Ayala A Voronin D Cavalieri, J Spearing, M Kelly, A Dossena.

P Crouch J O’Hara R Pavlyuchenko C Cudicini, A Hutton, D Bentley, K Naughton

Alright I have changed Babel and Yossi to how it should have been, but these two benches speak volumes.

One is for a team hoping to improve by one place and challenge for the premier league, and one is for a team hoping to break into the top four.

What's the chances of us having 2 decent strikers on the bench anytime soon Vlad? lol

Funny how when Rafa spends loads of money on squadies, everyone cries out for 1 or 2 £20m players, when he does the latter, its a bemoaning of the opposite.

United have won the league with two superstars (Rooney/Ronaldo) staying fit over the course of the season, mixed with others and youths on their bench. Sometimes you have to take the risk.

We've got decent backup in every position barring right-back and up-front. (Gerrard can always drop back into midfield, with Benayoun behind Torres, and Babel/Benayoun can play on the right of midfield).

We just didn't play very well on Sunday, despite the "depth" of Spur's bench, the player who most affected the game by far was one of ours.

The scum usually had 4 or 5 match winners out on the pitch during a game to be honest mate.

Rafa's bought one superstar.

The problem was with the eleven out on the pitch. Apart from noting, and agreeing on, the underwhelming look of the bench, what exactly is this discussion seeking to achieve?

I suppose the point being the observation there is no one capable of coming off the bench to change the game, apart from Yossi, which is academic, as everyone knows he should be starting anyway

One more major signing and we should be sorted, i just hope we can keep in touch whilst we get everyone back fit.

Our bench could well look like this soon:

Cavalieri, Agger, Riera, Aurelio, Yossi, Babel and Lucas.

Yup. But that's surely an observation everyone shares. So it's one more case of a post posing as a thread.
