So what are your favourite galleries to visit and what in them are worth having a look at?
I've just spent the day in Edinburgh and a splendid few hours going around the National Gallery.
I avoided the portraits and religious scenes, which makes up about 90% of everything in there, but hunting down the other 10% is well worth it. There is an awesome Constable (Dedham Vale) and a couple of impressive Turner oil paintings. There is also a really good painting of Vesuvius erupting by a painter I can't remember. The impressionist wing of the gallery was closed for refurb but last time I was here it had several great Van Gogh and Monet paintings. One of olive trees from an Asylum that Van Gogh was supposed to have spent some time in sticks in my mind.
I'm quite partial to a bit of sculpture as well. Edinburgh has Rodin's The Kiss which is very impressive (only on loan and will be gone soon apparently).
