Young Peggy has sailed through a trial he's had for a new Under 11s side. The team he's been with since he was five has to disband this season because they've reached the age when they have to step up from 7-a-side to 11 and they don't have enough players to form a squad.
So he played his last game for his old club on Saturday and was made captain for the day as he was the longest-serving player. He scored in a 3-2 win so that was all very nice.
He had his trial yesterday at a club which will be a real step-up in class for him. I was a bit nervous because he'd never had a trial before having always played for the same side. Anyway, he did fine in the drills then they put him into a match against the Under 12s - kids at least a year older than him. He scored twice and played a blinder.
I'd spoken to the coach of the new side a couple of times and I'd told him he'd been played predominantly on the left wing for the past couple of seasons. After Sunday's trial the coach told me he'd come through with flying colours and they'd have to consider playing him in a front two. He said he's got a sweet left foot, plays with his head up and has a good football brain. Chip off the old block really.
Anyway I'm as proud as proud can be. Junior football is aces.
