Tevez talks about retiring

Carlos Tevez says he may retire from football after the World Cup. Disappointment at losing his first-choice place for Argentina as well as exhaustion have led the Manchester City forward, currently 25, to consider his future in the game.

"My chance passed. I had my possibility and I couldn't take advantage of it. When the team needed goals I couldn't provide them," Tevez said. "So it's logical that other lads should be in front of me," he added of players such as Gonzalo Higuain, now the coach Diego Maradona's first choice as central striker.

Tevez, speaking in Madrid where Maradona's team face Spain in a friendly tomorrow, said retirement had crossed his mind. "It's complicated, there's my family, the desire to return to Boca Juniors, but I think about it. It crosses my mind to hang up my boots if we win the World Cup, although I have a contract [with Manchester City] until 2014," he said.

"I'm a bit tired of so much football, so much football. I want to enjoy my family a bit. I'm very keen to stop and get a bit of calm. I've already won a lot. Living for football has saturated me."

Tevez has been voted South American footballer of the year three times in a row, winning the Libertadores Cup and the world club title with Boca in 2003, the Brazilian league title with Corinthians in 2005 and an Olympic gold medal with Argentina in 2004.

He helped West Ham avoid relegation in 2007 and Manchester United lift two Premier League titles and be crowned European and world club champions.

Tevez, who last month said he sometimes wanted to quit the national team, added that he got fed up with criticism of Maradona's side as they struggled in the World Cup qualifiers. "We were criticised a lot, sometimes rightly so, but to have people say we didn't play well because of the money or we don't love the [Argentina] shirt, don't sing the national anthem, there's a lot of ill will," Tevez said.

I can't see it happening myself, but he must be really fed up with football

Top player, but he's gone off the rails in the last year.

I'm convinced he went to City thinking he'd be the main man but so far Bellamy and Adebayor have easily outperformed him and have the love of the fans.

I'd be more pissed off if I had that head that looks likes it's been set on fire and put out with an axe

Funny 'cause it's true.

I wanted him here. He is a world class player. Maradona hasn't got a clue.

1. He can play the support striker role as well as Gerrard.
2. He doesn't gets injured and i a bit like our Dirk in that regard. This is pertinent when we don't have the squad strength.

Had we gotten him instead of Aquilani, we could just play Mascher and Gerrard in the center and have a first team that will strike fear into any team.

As it stands we are shite in the midfield and shite upfront and shite at the back too as a result.

I don't see how this is a "told you so!" type thing about the (many) people who wanted Tevez here. He was an excellent player that would fit our system.

Hang on, he was "A Grade Whopper" a bit ago.

*confused but not arsed about him coming or not*

He said he wouldn't come here out of 'love and respect' for his united fans, so he went to there main rivals instead.

if he wants rest from football he can get it in about 10 years time, forever.

I fuckin hate footballers crying about being tired, let them go down a coal mine or carry a fucking hod for 40 hours a week and see what tired is.....

I thank thee, your majesty.

I was one of the people who wanted him when he was available.
In my defence I just thought he was a bit of an idiot not a moany, whiny bitchy moron who cant keep his mouth shut.
His comments since leaving united have been so stupid, somone needs to tell him to shut it

I know I keep going on about it but how in the fuck has he been here 3 YEARS and not learned to speak English ?

FFS !

*sadly nods*

The funniest was the div who, despite every single piece of evidence, maintained - right until he appeared in a City shirt - that he was signing for us, despite being told at least once a day that he was going to City

Who was that?

clearly struggling mentally poor bloke..

I think he probably needs to get an injury and have several months off to come back down to reality.

He was Hero at West Ham and loved the support he received.. he was on top of the moon.. Then to get a huge move to UTD would have been terrific for the guy. To then be another player surrounded by other fan favourites probably would have been difficult for him to adapt. To then fail... Clearly he was angry and nobody was there to keep him quiet at Interviews and he was too honest..which i am sure he now regrets.

now maybe he feels like he has sold out for money.. playing with a bunch of money hungry players with HUGEEEEEEEEEE ego's and again he doesn't have that Hero status that he once had at West Ham..

In the space of a couple of years he has gone from being loved by every fan at a club with an abundance of history and being the underdog. Which is a tag he would love.. physically resembling a dog and all that. To now being a sell out having to listen to Bellamy and Adebayor crap on all day..

id lock the knife draws and make sure all of his ties are clip on's..

Probably the same clueless cunt who also said Silva was due in "any day now."

Shame, he would have been a wonderful signing for us.
