No doubt Masher will return for this one but I think we might see him partnering Lucas with us being the away side:

Probable:

---------------Reina-------------
Johnson-Skrtel-Carra-Insua
----------Lucas--Masher-------
--Kuyt-------Gerrard-----Yossi
----------------Torres-----------

Preferable:

--------------Reina--------------
Johnson-Skrtel-Carra-Insua
---------Gerrard-L/JM----------
--Kuyt-------Yossi------AR/RB-
--------------Torres-------------

---------------------Reina
Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Insua
Benayoun, Mascherano, Gerrard, Riera
-----------------Kuyt, Torres

Kuyt and Torres to score. Timepiece to win at Newmarket today.

I would actually prefer your probable team for this one Mark.
I want Gerrard back behind Torres. Mascherano and Lucas will be fine together.

I'd probably start with team one, and change to team two if team one doesn't look like winning.

Exactly.

I really hope Yossi gets another game in the hole to show what he can do again.

I think Rafa will start this. Debrecani didn't work out as well as expected did it.

Firtst time contributing to the team thread. Anyway, here are my thoughts. Masher should start on the bench, he hasnt been playing well and it would not be fair on Lucas, who has. Yossi should play. I'd probably bring back Fabio.

Reina
Johnson Carra Skertl Aurelio
Benayoun, Gerrard Lucas Riera
Kuyt Torres

Let me start by saying thank you for you contribution.

Aurelio isn't fit enough to play 90 minutes so forget him.
Otherwise I really like you team but not the formation.
We should play with Benayoun behind Torres and not on the wing. That's his best position.
It doesn't matter to me if Mascherano starts or not but I would rather have him on the pitch against West Ham in an away game than Lucas.

Anyone still think Masher won't start today ?

Rafael Benitez has urged Javier Mascherano to recapture his best form as the Reds look to get themselves back in the title race.
Mascherano was strongly linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer, but Benitez insists he has a key role to play in the club's future.

"He is the captain of Argentina thanks to Liverpool," said Benitez.

"He understands it's very, very important for us to have the best from Mascherano if we want to win more games.

"I have told the managing director that he is very important to us and we want to keep him, and we will look at his contract when the time is right.

"He is a key player for us and he will be a key player for us during the season.

"I think he is working very hard and in one or two games he was playing well but the team was not doing really well in the other two. It's more the team than just one player.

"He has to play at the level he was before, but he has enough time to do that, and we know he is a key player for us, and will be for a long time.

"The main thing for me is that he is a professional. He has been in London and he has been in Liverpool and I think he was very happy in Liverpool, so if we can win some games then I think it will be easier for a professional to be happy."

Latest on West Ham's team :

Although much has been made of the possibility that Hammers new signing, striker Allesandro Diamante, might be included in the starting line up against Liverpool, there are two other players who might have even more influence on the game's outcome. Valon Behrami and Herita Ilunga look set to start in this evening's 5.30 pm match at the Boleyn.

Midfielder Behrami's influence, guille and hard running have been sorely missed as have Herita Ilunga's imperious performances at left back, both return to a team that is in dire need of their input. Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke will at last be able to put out a team that mirrors their image of football, the return of Jack Collison is an added bonus

Riera was crap on Weds so I can understand that.

Hopefully Yossi can keep up his good form and haunt his old club. Would be nice to see Torres score too. I think once he gets a goal, he'll go on a run.

Gerrard playing just off Torres again. I hope Babel gets on and does something useful. We need to be getting the best out of him considering the summer transfer activity was so shit.

Javier Mascherano returns to the Liverpool side to face former club West Ham this evening - listen live online from 5pm.
The Argentina captain has missed the last two games through an injury sustained on international duty but replaces Albert Riera today at Upton Park.

The Reds XI in full is: Reina, Johnson, Insua, Carragher, Skrtel, Mascherano, Lucas, Benayoun, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres. Subs: Cavalieri, Riera, Aurelio, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Degen, Dossena.

Surely Pacheco, N'gog or Voronin would give us more options from the bench than three fullbacks.

That is a disgraceful bench.

Spurs, Villa, Everton & the like can put out better benches.

Do you know how much we spent on that bench ?

3m, 6m, 0.4m, 1.5m, 11m, 2m signing on fee, 8m.

More than 30m.

Pacheco is injured, NGog played on Thursday with a view to the Leeds match and Voronin is shite.
