This article is worth discussing.

Questions were raised in some quarters about the long-term prospects at United for Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck, the Italy and England Under-21 strikers respectively, and Darron Gibson, the Ireland midfield player, among others, after defeat by the Turkish club.

What happened to Macheda who impressed so much last year with those two winning goals (that could have cost us the title)? They have Obertan, Silva brothers, Anderson, Evans... wow

We have Insua, Agger, Lucas, Ngog, Spearing, Kelly, Nemeth and Babel who are reasonably young.

Gunners have a few too in Cesc (he is still young), Walcott... etc

Are the questions aimed at United youngsters valid?

Hard to say at this point. By the end of last season, they certainly looked like they had a few players on the cusp. I don't really think losing to a Turkish team really scuppers it all that much as it's just one result. Have to see.

And 7M for the Silva twins.

That's 57M on them alone; you'd like to fucking think one or two fo them might turn out to be decent.

We are definitely getting better bang for our buck but it really doesn't matter how much they waste if they win titles. Sorry if that's a predictable post but it's true even though I agree the players you named are overpriced rubbish (as of now).

Yep. Though I think we're on the right track, despite the usual comments surrounding most of our youngsters, the youth sides at least seem to be on the right track. It takes time and if the Academy was as much a state as was rumoured, then we've literally wasted years on it. Rafa has just got his claws into the whole thing, it's gonna be at least a couple of years before we reap the benefits.

Insua isn't half as bad as some of the posters on here reckon, he's still a kid playing his first full season, yet people expect him to play like a seasoned pro. He'll make mistakes, his positioning WILL be questionable, it all comes with experience.

I think his biggest downfall is that he doesn't 'want' the ball.

He's nowhere near as bad as reading this board lately would have you believe. Unfortunately we have so many players injured or in bad form that it's easy to jump on anyone not performing. Our defense in general is a mess.
