Swansea Post Match Analysis

I'd like to keep GlenJo on the right though. He linked up very well with Sterling. Looked promising.

My Thoughts:

Defense looked very good. Agger and Skrtel are starting to slowly getting into form and hopefully, they'll reach last year's level.

Enrique wasn't as good as last week, but he was covering Downing defensively and made some nice moves. Unlucky not to score, but it was the correct call.

Sterling played fine. Can he do with a rest? Sure, but our team lacks what he brings. The only thing about today that pissed me off was that 2 on 1 with Suarez late on when he passed the ball too hard - if it was a good pass, we win 1-0. Oh, his tracking back is really good. Excellent quality.

Suarez was ok - he was starved of service, but played well. Chico was trying to get him sent off by taking extra long on the ground every time they tangled.

Henderson played a solid game. It will be a piece of managerial genius if Rodgers can bring out the player he can be. Don't think he will, but he can be a very capable DM imo.

Reina played a solid game. Good punches, brave save at the end + solid footwork. Not sure if he'll ever be the Pepe we saw in his first few years here, but if he plays at this level - we'll be fine.

... and now the negative:

Gerrard, bar a few nice passes, was poor. He seems to be lacking in energy, and I thought he should have been taking off. What is so frustrating is he's hurting this team with his play right now - He's better than this, but as he's not showing it, I think we should bench him ...

Allen ... Another poor game ... gave the ball away loads, and two stupid fouls in dangerous areas. I know he's playing out of position, and there's little movement in front of him, and that the defensive responsibilities are weighing down on him ... but if he's struggling because of this, either play him in his position and give the defensive responsibilities to Henderson, or bench him too.

Rodgers ... the first half team was good, and should have gone into half time with a lead. It didn't, but once Laudrup changed his formation to a 4-6-0 essentially with Ki's introduction, Rodgers never reacted. We gave up control of this game to Swansea in the 2nd half ... Pity, as we could have, and should have, won this. Still ... a long unbeaten run.

Last but not least ... Downing ... On a scale of 0-100, Downing's confidence is currently at -3,031. He's finished here as a player, and I think for his OWN good, Rodgers shouldn't play him. Let him go on loan to wherever, or sell him to whomever. It's not fair to the player - he's so bad and he knows it.

I though Stevie was very hit and miss today but todays game was another example showing how desperately our midfield needs stiffening up, Hendo is not up to the job yet. I think we need a decent midfielder ( othrt than Lucas ) as well as a striker, Moutinho please. The flanks and defence are ok and Downing apart ( is Robinson not fit - he played for the u21s the other day ) played pretty well, although Sterling will get burned out at this rate.

We were sloppy, should have won though. Off work tomorrow so staying over in Swansea, have some beers.

Wynd Street - this time of the year no-one leaves without having public sex with someone you have never met before

Robbed again

I thought they played well in the first half. Disappointing in the second and the subs didn't turn it like I thought they might... But still, we were the better side.

And in the four games we've played that team that's the first time we were

A great round up and one I completely agree with. *knucks*

Robbed again is right shadey, and it was a pen on Gerrard at the end of the game.

The Downing thing. I don't know if Rogers is under pressure to play him in some sort of role to let potential buyers know he is still alive.
If so they are best not seeing him and should work from memory only.
We can all point at players who have not lived up to their transfer fee, but Downing has to be the biggest failure on that score, he shows nothing, nothing at all, no effort no bollocks, no skill no brain.
We are going to be stuck with him for years as no one will want him and those that might for some inexplicable reason will baulk at the wages...........sigh

It was a dull game, played at pedestrian pace that almost put me to sleep. Everytime they attacked us I thought they may score, and when we attacked them the penalty area was nearly always full of their players so I knew we would never score a winning goal from the penalty area. I thought everyone one of them was below average today in our team.

I think people are giving Gerrard too much credit by describing him as "poor". I thought he was fucking shite. Particularly in the first half.

Our best player, by a country mile was Glen Johnson. He was fucking excellent today. Some of those low crosses he put in early in the game were absolute killer. Enrique and Reina were in top form too. Downing was fucking abysmal. Agger and Skrtel were solid. Allen was poor. Giving the ball away and conceding stupid frees in dangerous areas as much as he did is just unforgivable. I thought Henderson and Sterling did ok. People are being a bit harsh on Sterling. Yes, he made a few mistakes, but he made up for them later. That crack on goal deserved much more than it got, ie, the fucking woodwork again. We seem to forget he's just 17 and I think we expect far to much from him. Suarez of course was immense. A bad ball on the 2 on 1 situation, but he's allowed 1 mistake every now and again.

Overall, another good team perforamce, just a pity we couldn't nick the victory.

Unless I missed something glaringly obvious, but overall I thought he was really poor. He almost gifted Swansea a goal too.

Enrique and Johnson were our best players, Johnson the best, although Enrique was doing two jobs most of the game. Henderson was great and stopped our midfield being overrun, although i'm sure no one will give him credit for that as per. He must play against Spurs, otherwise they'll waltz right through our midfield.

Oh and whoever said Gerrard had a good passing game is obviously Fucking blind....

He gave the ball away quite a few times, he also played the pass of the game when he totally dissected their defense, some of his deliveries were really good, but he was also sloppy trying to make things happen, I'd rather that than Allen and Henderson doing a great impression of each other as the beige and taupe of the midfield. So no, people aren't "fucking blind", he gave the ball away, but he also played some great passes too.

He was awful for a lot of the game though Mark, he's a victim of his own success, it's true, but there is a good argument for him being dropped, although he'd stay in my team for now, for the reasons you mentioned, he has special plays in him, be it a pass, a run or a cross, and that's something we need, he definitely should have been the one coming off and not Henderson.

He was poor, he's been poor for ages now and yes, he should have come off (as I said in another post). Henderson should have stayed on if only to give us that protection infront of the back four and to keep an eye on Michu.

We needed a goal. Swapping Henderson for Cole provided a goal threat (of sorts), removing Gerrard and replacing him with anyone other than Suarez reduced our goal threat.

It's not as simple as put the most attacking player on the pitch and we improve our goal threat, we have to control the game to attack and Henderson helps us control the midfield.

You'd be right if we had any other goalscorers anywhere in the squad.

I thought they all did well with the exception of Downing who is a fucking disgrace.

I was always a supporter of Stu but he has to go.

He just does not have the guts or bravery for top flight footy, he is wasting his physical talent with a bottlers brain.

We will be lucky to get £7 million from someone like QPR, didn't harry used to want him

didn't harry used to want him

I read somewhere that Arsene Wenger is considering Downing as a useful addition to the Arsenal squad!

I find it a bit of a mystery. I was quite pleased when we signed him because his performances for Middlesborough and Villa seemed pretty good.

My sentiments exactly. I've had faith in him for a long time, and I was really hoping he'd come good. He had a couple of really good games toward the end of last season and I thought 'this is it, he's on on the upward slope'. But alas, no, he turned shit again. It's a pity, because I know he's capable of a lot more than what he's producing for Liverpool, and I genuinely feel sorry for the lad. The time has come. He's not doing his job. Move him on to a club where he might be able to fulfil his potential in the half dozen years or so he has left in him.

Sterlinho looks knackered to me, he was a step slow and lacked his usual precision with his first touch. Enrique was good again I thought, made some nice runs and seems to have a unique understanding with Luis.

Lego head was worthless as per, perfectly content to pass it sideways or backwards nearly every time. Joe Allen is a funny one, he stormed onto the scene at Liverpool and looked the part immediately but his form has dipped significantly the past 5 games or so.

Stevie gave the ball away too many times and didn't looked all too bothered by it either. Thought Reina had maybe his best game of the season thus far.
