Postmen at a Royal Mail branch are set to defy bosses by refusing to deliver copies of The Lying Rag newspaper.
The posties at the Skelmersdale office will walk out this week after managers said there was no option but deliver it.
The paper, which remains controversial over its coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy , approached Royal Mail to deliver 22m copies across England as part of a World Cup promotion campaign.
Royal Mail accepted the deal but said it would not deliver copies in Liverpool. But some areas of Merseyside – such as Wirral – have the Chester postcode, while Southport has the Preston postcode and Skem shares the Wigan postcode.
Up to 50 staff at the Skem branch were told of the decision to deliver the paper on Friday.
But posties have reacted angrily.
One said: “I felt sick to be honest that I would have to handle it. We would be delivering it to people that were at Hillsborough and to people that lost a loved one or knew someone that died at Hillsborough.
“You’ll always get people who will do it and people are worried about their jobs, but a good percentage of people will walk out.”
Royal Mail did not comment.

hopefully sense prevails and none of these postmen are punished for their actions . Although these days you sadly can't count on that .

Be interesting to see if that works. All the shiny, privatised Royal Mail will care about is the money the company will get for stuffing that rag through letterboxes, so those posties will probably have their bags scrutinised when they get back from the rounds in question and the management will be keeping their eyes open for any report of large quantities being dumped in the area.

Strange how they're not delivering it in Liverpool.

Plenty of Liverpool fans saying they will stick it in a large envelope with The Lying Rag's head office on it & post in a postbox with no postage on it.

Maybe the postmen could look to see which houses have satellite dishes on them and then at least they'd know those people are supportive of Murdoch properties.

Another campaign by that bastard Murdoch.
The thing is, this will work on some arseholes. They'll be complaining that we have cost them a 'free newspaper'. Win/win for murdoch.

I still see a lot of resentment and bitterness towards our club from other fans. I've 'friends' who are scum fans, bham city fans, spurs fans etc and they on a regular basis call us 'the victims' and say things like 'whats the fucking armband for this week', when I confront them on shit they change the subject or refuse to give answers, like cowards.
Don't get me wrong, I detest the scum, but you would never ever hear me insult what happened at munich or hear me say a bad word about them remembering their dead on the anniversary.
