Liverpool hope Luis Suárez will be ready for start of Premier League season despite Copa America exploits

Liverpool remain hopeful Luis Suárez will be able to play a part in the opening fixtures of the season despite his exertions in helping Uruguay win the Copa America.

Luis Suárez faces having just three weeks to recover from the Copa America before he is forced back into action with Liverpool

Uruguay's run to the final means that Suárez has less than three weeks of recovery time before the start of the domestic season.

The 24 year-old, named the most valuable player in the tournament, scored one and created another as Uruguay beat Paraguay 3-0 in Buenos Aires on Sunday night to claim a record 15th title and later joined his team-mates and 35,000 delirious fans to celebrate the victory at Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario.

Suárez will now be granted a break by his club to relax after the three week tournament, but it is thought he may cut short his stay in his homeland to return to England in order to be ready for Liverpool’s opening game with Sunderland on Aug 13 or Kenny Dalglish’s team’s trip to Arsenal a week later.

The forward is expected to remain in Montevideo to mark the first birthday of his daughter Delfina on Aug 5 but relatives say he is not expected to visit his hometown of Salto, on the Argentine border, so as to enable him to return to England more quickly.

Dalglish and Liverpool’s medical staff will consult with the player to make sure he is ready to play but the two-week break he was afforded before the Copa America, as well as the seven-week hiatus he endured from November last year to January - thanks to a ban for biting PSV Eindhoven’s Otman Bakkal and the Dutch winter break - mean he may return to action without the full three-week break for which he is entitled.

Such is Suárez’s profile after a remarkable first six months on Merseyside and his stunning Copa America that Dalglish will be certain not to risk the former Ajax player’s long-term health.

The Uruguayan had already emerged as Liverpool’s new crown jewel, and his performances in Argentina have marked him out as one of world football’s rising stars.

The player himself was typically sanguine about individual praise, insisting that the player of the tournament trophy belonged to his team.

“Individual prizes are for the team,” he said. “This team has given a huge effort. We showed what we achieved last year in South Africa was no fluke. Uruguay has achieved great things, but does not have to forget how to win titles. We’ve had a few hard years, but have showed we are a great nation.”

Liverpool could loan Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina next season in a bid to clear his £70,000-a-week wages from their books. Dalglish must trim his squad before further strengthening, with Suárez’s compatriots Diego Godin and Alvaro Pereira among his possible targets.

Absolutely, and that's in line with other things he's said, as well as the way he conducted himself with Ajax.

The same could have been said about Torres's conduct at Athletico and the things he said while he was here....his interviews were really down to earth and of that of a complete team man whose only motivation was to play good football.

It is not until Chelsea, City, Barca or Madrid make an enquiry, waving all those 100$bills, trophies and continental babes that players become proper cunts...

Fuck me will you all stop acting like you cant like Suarez cos he's only gonna fuck off somewhere else.

You're acting like stroppy teens who have just had their first 'love' run off with another fella so you're refusing to look at another girl in case she hurts you too.

It's sad on so many levels.

tbh i'd prefer it if he had a nice few weeks holiday and missed a couple of games... you cant work all day every day, fuck it we've just spent 45M we should be able to cope without him for a bit.

Nah. Wouldn't want to be travelling to the Emirates without him. He's our best player by miles.

But where in the article does it actually have any facts about him coming home early? I don't see any.

I agree with Molbystwin. I think we should let him rest properly. It'll only affect his form later on in the season if we rush him back too quickly.

Agree 100%. He should sit out the Sunderland game at least.

He had nearly 2 months off not so long ago, I'd play him if he's fit.

Is right. Play him, he'll be fine.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez believes that the club are capable of making a serious title tilt next season.

The Reds have struggled to sixth and seventh-placed finishes in the last two campaigns, but were in sublime form following the appointment of Kenny Dalglish in January.

Despite their great run of results, the Merseysiders had to look on as arch-enemies Manchester United won their 19th league title, moving ahead of the Anfield club in the all-time honours list in the process.

But Suarez, who scored four goals as Uruguay won the Copa America this summer, is confident that the team are heading in the right direction and that 21 years of disappointment can come to an end.

The 24-year-old said in the Daily Star Sunday: "At Liverpool we always dream about being Premier League champions.

"We know, of course, that it's a very difficult league to win and very competitive. There are a lot of teams who want to be champions.”

The return of King Kenny, coupled with the club’s ambitious new owners, have brought a renewed sense of optimism to the club, as well as an investment in new players to help Liverpool make the next step.

After signing Suarez and fellow striker Andy Carroll in January for a combined £57 million, Dalglish has splashed out a further £45 million so far this summer on midfielders Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, giving the squad a strength-in-depth that has been missing in recent times.

And Suarez says the combination of new signings and not having to play in Europe could be the key to success in 2011/12.

"Now we have a squad of quality. We trust our manager and we trust each other as team-mates. We are confident about that," he said.

"We have the ability and I think Liverpool certainly should be aiming to finish among the Champions League places. Then there is always that dream, a little dream, about actually winning the Premier League.

"Maybe not playing in the Europa League this year will really help us. We will be able to focus on the league and on getting as high up the table as possible."

I couldn't give a cunt if City have signed Aguero, as we've got Luis coming back in a few weeks.

He is going to absolutely tear up the Premier league this season.

I cannot wait!

Didn't cost us £35m either!
