I'd like to see Ngoo - but really can't see it happening as he's not been near the first team as yet.

One thing I like about Rodgers is that he is willing to give everyone a chance, so I reckon it's not impossible.

Stomach bug? He'll be fit for sunday, I'd be surprised if not.

Gerrard as the false 9 could be an interesting choice.

False 9 is fine if we had goal scoring midfielders.. we don't. It would be much better to just swap in another striker. They will not be up to Suarez's standards, but at the moment no one in the league is. It isn't worth trying out a new system just for this one game though.

I'd go with Morgan, deserves another chance as he has been banging them in for the U21s

I agree with this. If you start with a team of midfielders you will be lucky to score. Steven Gerrard has lost most of the goalscoring ability he used to have, plus he doesn't feel comfortable playing a forward role and always gravitates to midfield if he is told to do so (see last season's Cup Final). I hope Rodgers gives a game to a young striker like Morgan or Ngoo.

Probably the only really good emergency centre forward we had was Barnes. I remember seeing him play in that role away at QPR and he was brilliant. Ngoo would be interesting but I just hope either or both Suso or Pacheco play with him as they know his game very well and he's quite an unusual player in terms of his runs and general style. The reserve team are working hard at the moment on improving Morgan's all-round game, playing him out on the right and sometimes in a deeper position to develop his awareness and sharpen his technique, so it's probably not a great time to throw him in back in the centre.

Morgan is a poor Neil Mellor. He'll never make it at liverpool. I think Ngoo would get battered against west ham. It will definitely be shelvey or gerrard up front against west ham. More likely Shelvey.

That's a bit unfair on Morgan. He's got plenty of potential and he's learning all the time, and he reminds me a bit of Craig Johnston in his eagerness to work and improve.

He's a good finisher but his game does seem very limited. Ive no doubt he's very eager, works hard and is learning. But i just don't see him making it as a top striker. He'll never be a owen or fowler which is what we need if we want to make it to the top. But i can't fault his desire and dedication. But so was spearing, but if you don't have that extra bit of quality then you'll never make it to the top level. I don't see Morgan having that extra bit of quality. Hope he proves me wrong, but i don't see it so far.

You could be right, but Liverpool players about whom one could have said similar things have surprised us before now. Macca mentions one of them, Craig Johnston, who brought himself up to the required standard by sheer bloodymindedness and force of will. Another, and a name which may well surprise some in this context, was Kevin Keegan, who owed his success to plain old hard work at least as much as to native talent.

Perhaps something like this:

......................................Lucas.................Shelvey...................................
......................Suso.................................................Gerrard....................
Sterling........................................................................................Enrique

Would need movement in abundance but truth to be told without any real forward in the team and with Enrique and to some extent Sterling our most likely personel to run in deep behind the opponents defense I'd be tempted to try something like this.

Keegan owed much of his success to smole hard graft. He wasn't the most gifted or athletic but he had the heart of a lion and the engine of a performance car. He worked hard and improved with work. Compared to the likes of Fowler or Dalglish then he'd be a distant 3rd in the ability stakes but he closed that gap with hard work and commitment.

Cally would fall into the same category too IMO and he played over 800 games for us. Workmanlike, good engine, intelligent footballer but not what I would call a natural talent.

It takes talent and hard work to assist results. Look at Fowler. Arguably the most naturally gifted striker of a generation. He could and did score every type of goal as a 5ft 8in, not overly quick striker. Because he was skilful and knew where the goals were.

His work rate off the field took its toll later on when he could no longer rely on natural ability alone.

I would like to see the man that could batter N'goo

Phrase of the day. Nice one. 😀

the ultimate test for a one man team = that man missing

Very worried

I'm surprised that you are going along with the popular media theory that we are a "one-man team" Fox. They used to claim that Gerrard made us a "one-man team" although our results without Gerrard weren't noticeably worse.

All clubs have their star performers.

Tbf the stats do back up the media claims

They were actually better, on occasion.

The difference between then and now though was that we weren't so reliant on one player for our goalscoring. I'm still reasonably optimistic, as I sense a good spirit in the camp these days, but in terms of goal threat this will be a real test for the other players.

I hear you mate but our goal stats don't fill me with a lot of hope unless a set piece with a centre half scoring happens
