Sturridge

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is due to have a medical at Liverpool on Sunday ahead of a £12m transfer.
Liverpool have agreed a deal with Chelsea for the 23-year-old England international and a £60,000 per week contract with the player.
However, any transfer is unlikely to be confirmed until the opening of the January transfer window.
The former Manchester City striker has made seven league appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring one goal.
His last league appearance for the Blues was in the 2-1 defeat by West Bromwich Albion on 17 November.
Sturridge has not featured since Rafael Benitez arrived at Stamford Bridge, due to a hamstring injury.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of Sturridge and tried to sign him on loan in August, but the Chelsea frontman wanted a permanent move.
Rodgers is keen to add to his striking options after letting Andy Carroll join West Ham on loan in August and then missing out on former Fulham striker Clint Dempsey on deadline day.

No, I'm not impressed with our scouting network because of our dealings over the past several transfer windows.

The only first-team players we've picked from relative obscurity over the past couple of years have been Coates and Assaidi, and they hardly even get a sniff in the first team. The rest have all been expensive outlays for players known and seen by all.

The value that Sturridge and Ince promise to offer at 18 million could be found elsewhere for about 2/3rds the price and half the wages. What's the point of a scouting network then if it is pathetic at finding value?

Ah, fair enough mate. Agree with most of that. The new scouting network will probably take a fair bit of time to get going.

Re Ince and Sturridge. Rodgers seems to have followed Sturridge for a while, and Ince for 4 mill could be a great deal in the end.

But, there is good value and quality players outside the PL. Loads of them aswell, lets hope our new scouting ser up can discover some of them....

I'll be very happy if Sturridge signs, think I've said this before but I rate him more than Walcott, not that Walcott is bad or anything but I just think Sturridge has that bit more imagination in the final 3rd to do a trick and create an chance out of nothing. He will be a big hit if he signs.

I don't get this criticism of Allen as being a crab sometimes.

If the movement ahead is static, which it often is what's he supposed to do, lump it forward and hope?

Yesterday we were anything but static, movement was good and Allen wasn't playing. Secondly I have noticed that his first look isn't forward it is sideways when you compare that with Gerrards whose first look is always for a forward pass.

Story in the Mirror today that he'd enquired about the plausibility of having a clause in his contract that stated he would only play in a certain position (centre), we've allegedly spoken to the Premier League who've said they would be 'uncomfortable' with such a clause as it raises all sorts of potential problems, particularly if we change manager, and we were unhappy ourselves to go down such an avenue which would ultimately give the player more power over his role than the manager. We've rebuffed it anyway and ironed it out with him.

I hope that's just media bollocks.

Oh sh!t. This is exactly what I was afraid of with him. As for ironing it out, I wonder (a) what that consists of and (b) whether it will last.

That ringing sound you can hear is the sound of warning bells going off.

Wtf? Really? That sounds like bollocks. I still reckon we will see Suarez moved wide left to accomdate him and I'm ni really bothered. Suarez can do damage anywhere and I fully expect Sturridge to be an instant hit for us

True, but I meant I fear it'll be we buy him, and then a shit year or so later we're loaning him out in an attempt to offload him.

Due to Chelsea's extreme generosity to us in the past, £50m for Torres, £13m for Meireles and £7m for Yossi I am expecting a bid from them for Sturridge in about three seasons time in the region of £50m.
We will accept it and Chelsea will be horrified to discover that Sturridge's two record breaking seasons with us were a temporary run of good form

That sounds like bollocks mate.
Its been said by loads of people now that the reason was a sell on percentage that his representatives wanted. And it was a pretty huge one aswell.

I'm quite pleased with this signing.

We really are putting together a young and talented squad.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Sturridge. He has pace, skill, and is a clinical finisher when on song. If he can become more consistent, £12m will begin to look like a bargain. Plus he also has quite a nice stepover. Always a clincher.

My main concern at the moment is our lack of steel, particularly in midfield. Sometimes it's just too easy to brush us aside, both physically and mentally. That's undoubtedly a symptom of fielding so many young players, but it's a growing problem. We've looked utterly toothless at times this season. As I alluded to last week, I think we're a little short of leaders on the pitch. I'm delighted that we have a squad for the future, but a physical presence with a bit of experience to help nurture the youngsters and knit them together certainly wouldn't hurt. Someone who can dominate, and someone youngsters can look up to and depend upon for a bit of inspiration and leadership, preferably who isn't a sulky bastard. Dembele would have been great, for instance. I feel that we've got far too many players at the moment who, when the going gets tough, would rather hide than stand up and be counted. That needs to change.

Rodgers was asked about the need for a traditional number ten within the squad and whilst he was very complimentary of Suso and confident of his future in that role he was very adamant that a creative goal scoring number 10 would be required although he did say it would have to wait till this summer.

With regards to Luis Suarez he perhaps surprised most by saying he would like Suarez to be one of the creators in the attack, from one of the sides or maybe even the number 10 role. Although he mainly focused on how Suarez had the perfect skill set for wriggling his way through tight spaces before playing balls back to a natural finisher around the penalty spot, something he admits to not having available at the moment. Suarez seems destined to be the creative focal point for Rodgers team going forward not the main centralised goal scorer.

part of a summary from those interviews the other day which i wasn't arsed watching. Anyway it will be interesting to see if suarez is moved into this sort of position , i have my worries it won't work out as hoped . he doesn't play that way for uruguay and like to play tight on defenders .

That HAS to be absolute bollocks.
Who's going to leak that?
Sturridge's camp certainly won't, as that makes him look a complete and utter wanker.
Our club certainly won't, as that makes us look absolute fools, and why the hell would we even ask the Premier League about it?
Rodgers would never in a million years sign a player that insisted on such a clause.

I'm worried about the signing, I really haven't enjoyed watching him play for Chelsea. He stops the flow of the game by his sheer selfishness/stupidity but I'm not going to start believing every press report about him being a cunt off the pitch, unless there's actual substance rather than 'sources' bollocks.
Not having a go at you Mark, just find that story ridiculous.

I think he should play in the middle. Moving Suarez to the left. He's too much of a diva to play on either side of the wing.

Twitter twatter with something about an issue with the medical and that the deal could be off.
Wouldnt that just be typical..
