Both the BBC and The LA Times have reported what astronomers are calling, “strange structures” on the surface of Asteroid YU55.
According to radar astronomer Lance Benner, “The animation reveals a number of puzzling structures on the surface that we don’t yet understand.
To date, we’ve seen less than one half of the surface, so we expect more surprises.”
YU55 is the largest asteroid to come close to Earth in 200 years.
At its closest, YU55 is still a comfortable 200,000 miles away.
From collected data scientists have been able to project the asteroid’s path for the next 64 years.
Their projections don’t show YU55 coming close to Earth again until 2075.
Remember FEMA’s Nationwide alert today at 2pm EST is “only a test.”
