Roys just jealous cos he got 67 caps for a mostly shite Ireland team whilst stevie has 100 in a mostly average England team.

The bitter cunt.

He probably only got 67 because of all the times Fergie made him feign injury to get him out of international duty.

Fixed it for you. Granted such a thing happened so often I probably need to be more specific.

This occasion was the WC 20002 when they completely failed to set up preperations for the team.

He still walked out though.

Erm... No, mate - I had it right the first time.

22 players experienced the same bullshit. Only one abandoned his country over it.

By and large people who supported Keane in the Saipan incident normally are either from Cork, Man U fans, non football people or would have an anti English bias, Mick McCarthy being viewed as English.
I don't see DB as coming from any of those groups well apart from the Man U supporters one.😉

He could have raised any problems he had in the previous decade he played with the team(I think it's a fairly safe assumption that the FAI were/are badly organised on many occasions prior to that), or after it. It's the worst possible time he could have done it.

He'd walk out on his wife for not doing the dishes, but he'd wait until she was in labour with their first child before he did it. He's a cunt, he was wrong. The FAI are to blame in some way, but nowhere near as much as Keane himself is.

As Count says, the only reason DB is pro-Keane in this argument, is because he obviously has a big bias for United players.

What was weird about his comments was that the gurning brummy Adrian Chiles was waxing lyrical about Gerrard - Showed a few clips from his England debut and some nice goals. Cut to quick tunnel interview with Gerrard talking about how proud he is etc etc. Then it was over to Roy Keane. The bitter twat just couldn't wait to stick his negative oar in. Much to the obvious discomfort of Chiles, Dixon and Southgate. It was such an obvious attempt to be controversial.

Only 1 was the leader of those 22 and was going there to win the WC not turn up have a laugh and get pissed after getting knocked out.
And has captain and easily our best player he was the only one in position to act out against the FAI.

Ha ha ha I would fall under the other category.
I hate sport if I'm playing with people who do not want to win first /enjoy themselves 2nd.

Winning is no1 for me. Going on the p*ss/having a laugh/ the craic is a distant 2nd for me hence why I'd back Keane everytime in this arguement.

He went there to win the WC not to just turn up and was disgusted to see the late of prep work done.

Oh and my housemate is a massive Utd fan from Cork, a cousin of Dennis Irwin has met Keane 10 times and hates him after Saipan so that theory goes out the window!

Bye and large is what I said.
The exception proves the rule.

Tempted to 'pull a Ryan' on this one, mate! 🙂

Rather than a five-pager, one or two quick things... Leaders don't abandon their teams. End of. Yes, the FAI are a bunch of clown-shoes, but they always had been, and he could have made his point at any time before or after the WC, and I'd have supported him in it. But not there. Not then. At a time when a real leader would have stood by his team, he called you-know-who, took his ball (and the only one we brought to Japan, apparently) and fucked off. That makes him a cunt.

Why not play the tournament, and then organize a team-wide stand of some kind, when they got home..?

I could go on and on, but I won't. He's a cunt. One of the biggest ever. And that's highlighted even moreso by the fact that Dennis Irwin is so universally loved up and down the country, I think.

Nah mate pulling a Ryan is just using the same old tired personal insults.

I'll not disagreeing that Keane can come across cnutish, he certainly can but in this instance I would agree with him 100%.

But Keane as he said in his book lived and played by the fail to prepare and prepare to fail motto and like him I'd rather not play if a tournament if it wasn't given the respect it deserved.

I actually thought it was incredibly brave to walk out as opposed to keeping quiet and doing his best like many would have. He was a legend and gave it all up for what he believed in.
But I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

As a side not the FAI are still a shambles now so I'm not sure him taking a stand after would have a made a difference if making the stand he did had very little effect.
