Sterling Contract Situation

I'm guessing Oncy means, he wants him to sign if its for the right reasons. I wouldn't want him to sign, if he wasn't happy. I want our players to actually WANT to play for us.

I don't care if he stays, if he wants to be a greedy twat then so be it, good riddance

He is a chav so was it was always going to come to this, he won't see the bigger picture.

I hope somebody gets in his ear quick, his agent is probably not doing him or us any favours

I want him to stay but if he wants to add to the bad image young footballers are getting then so be it, chase the cash

I am going off footy to be honest, cannot be arsed

What the fuck is happening to this forum?

This is like castigating Rodgers for talking about getting 2nd in the league - yep, that thing that he never actually said, which sane posters like Del repeatedly pointed out - Didn't stop people for critisising him for it.

Have I missed something? Has Raheem actually said something to deserve these comments?

I've be off football for a good few years and all these players complaining that 35K or 50K or 75K isn't enough and that they want to play in a specific position really grates with me.

Footballers in general as so far removed from reality that it pisses me off.

I honestly don't know if Sterling is going to be as good as people (our fans) think.
He shows some great touches, some superb intermittent glimpses, some other stuff but....
he's 17. Is he going to improve? Presumably. To what extent? No one knows.
Is he a Pennant? Is he a Ronaldo?
For me, his age aside, he doesn't do a massive amount at the moment. In terms of impact, he's no "wonderkid" like Owen or Rooney.
But, with a business head on, he's always going to have a saleable value.
He's certainly not worth 50k a week but then most of our players aren't and they get that. Can't blame his agent for playing that card.
If you're going to implement a system of bringing youth through rather than spend big on proven players, you have to back them when they emerge.
I don't know what we should do is the short answer.

Ah right, it all makes sense when you consider Raheems complaints about the money he was offered, and his demands about is position.

Could you point me to those quotes again please?

I wasn't specifically referring to Raheem, I am talking about players in general. Such as Walcott, Kelly etc...it happens every year....

Oh and I am sorry for being pissed off at greedy footballers who in general do fuck all to deserve the obscene amount of money they earn, I shall ask your permission next time.

Apology accepted.

All chavs are greedy and don't see bigger pictures?

Would you like to clarify this bizarre sweeping statement?

It's really a question of what our fallback position should be if we can't negotiate a lower weekly wage than £50,000. In that event, do we agree or let him go? Personally, if that point were ultimately reached, I'd give him the money. Otherwise we'd pretty much be accepting permanent second-rank status because, like it or not, that's the going rate for a player as important to a Premiership side as Sterling - his weaknesses notwithstanding - is to us now.

My view

No one can really point the finger here at Sterling or his agent.
He's dealing with a club whom have made the utmost clusterfuck of transfer and wage dealings over the last couple of decades.
I think potentially he could be great but I really can't be arsed anymore.
It's going to end in tears a couple of seasons down the line either way.

  1. From the Echo looks like hes gonna sign at last on a sensible deal by the look of it
  2. WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 19
Sterling set to agree new five-year Liverpool deal

  4. LIVERPOOL are nearing an agreement with the 18-year-old on a deal which is expected to start at a basic £30,000-a-week with staggered pay rises every year.
Negotiations have centred on the top-up bonuses for appearances, goals and Champions League qualification but both parties are confident that Sterling will shortly put pen to paper.

Manchester United were said to be monitoring the situation should the situation not be resolved.

That type of deal is about as sensible as it could get, given the wage structure we have, or don't have. Basing it on CL qualification will prove pivotal for him and us in the long run though.

Glad he's signed. It's all very well fuckwits saying they don't care if he goes but this lad is the brightest prospect we have and all rival clubs wish they had him. If he'd left, there'd be uproar!

He's still got a way to go but for a 17 yr old, he's doing amazingly. He's Ben out best player on occasions this seasons which is ridiculous confiding he's in the same team as Steven Gerrard.

Fucking hell dude, clam down, the excitement of him signing is making your typing go all 'foreign' and a bit mental. That last sentence reads like the spam e-mails I get from King Bungo from Lagos.

That's stupid iPad predictive text for you.

What it should say he's been our best player this season which is ridiculous considering he's in the same team as Steven Gerrard.
