Sterling Contract Situation

I almost laughed there. Lets see what happens, if he doesnt sign you can tell everyone how you knew this would be the outcome.

My guess is he'll sign pretty soon.
 
I don't pretend to know what's going on.

All we can assume is that nothing is agreed, because nothing is signed. That could be for any number of reasons.

If, if that's the way he wants to behave then he can f off as far as I'm concerned. After a promising start, he needs to focus on stepping it up on the field before making demands.
 
So is he on his last year then? I'm asking because in a Rodgers interview he said he had 18 months left.
 
He's signing a new contract with vodafone. Extra minutes and texts for your family, he needs it for all the kids he's got. His last bill was a fortune and his mum was raging.

To be fair I must admit to sharing Ross's concerns, all the rags today are full of stories claiming he will be signed by x y z for up to £15m, which whilst probably bollox are plausible as he is such a fantastic prospect. Once again we do ourselves no favours on the pr front - pay him what he wants and just get it done ending the speculation

So say he says he wants 50k a week you think we should pay it? What has he done to actually deserve it? He's far from the completed footballer, and this is his first season in the team. After a bright start he's hardly set the world alight in his last few games to say that we should just bend over and take it. If (and its only if of course) he's carrying on like this now, what happens when his next contract renewal comes up in 3-4 years time? I like the kid, but his shooting and left foot are pretty poor still so there's no way i'd want us to bend over to his demands. If Arsenal want him then give us walcott and £10m and he can piss off
 
It's not what he's done that he gets paid for, it's about what he's going to do for the duration of that contract.

I would happily give him 50k a week for five years right now because I think he's going to be very good for the next few years.

Who said he was the finished article. Hes only just turned 18 and is not going to get worse but will only improve as he gains more experience and his body matures. He is a first team regular already so as far as I'm concerned he justifies a decent wage. Its not as if he is a passanger either and he really impresses me with how he has not been intimidated or allowed himself to be kicked out of the game, and is dilligent with his defensive duties. Teams are putting two men on him now ( watch todays game to see this ) which shows how the opposition are worried by him. Fuck yeah we should be paying him 50k a week - half what Joe Cole or Downing are picking up - he would be money VERY well spent at the moment. If he keeps progressing as he has already he will be a 25m player in 3 to 4 years time and he wouldn't have cost us a penny - no brainer.

right now he just reminds me of a young wright-phillips. He's got a very long way to go before he's even come close to proving himself. There's no guarantee that he will even fulfill his potential. Giving a 17 year old 50k a week when he's hardly done anything is just asking for trouble. And he's coming across like he's got a bad attitude. So i'd personally do a swap deal for walcott and get cash, because right now walcott is miles better in all aspects of his game.

Bad attitude as opposed to Walcott who is fucking Arsenal over coz he wants a fuck off contract - parallels mmmmm
 
He's third in the prem at beating his marker behind and Ben Arfa and Suarez.

If we had a proper striker Raheem and Suarez would be beating the shit out of this league.

Give him whatever the fuck he wants. His resale value will already be more than Carroll, Downing and Henderson added together.
 
There's no guarantees with any signing, I think people need to rethink what risk is when it comes to player deals.

Raheem from 18-23 for 15m or Walcott from 24-29 for probably 35m all in. To be fair I think I'd take both but if it had to be one it would be Sterling. Walcott is heavily reliant on pace and doesnt appear to be too polished technically, which means injuries would seriously affect his value - like Owen. And I think pact wingers are always better in their early twenties.

He's been at arsenal for over 5 years now (i think), a full england international, has scored in important games and has been their best player this season. I've no problem with sterling staying and hope he does, just saying that a guy who is only 17 and hardly done anything significant in his football career shouldn't be asking for 50k a week. Right now he's only potential, but is being overrated by many reds i think. Still loads of flaws in his game.

Yeah but its what he does after with the ball which is the problem. Just think he's getting slightly overrated by people.
