Spurs (4-4-2):- Robinson; Pamarot, King (Capt.), Gardner, Atouba; Ricketts (sub Defoe, 65), Brown, Carrick, Ziegler; Kanoute, Keane (sub Mendes, 85)

vs

Liverpool (4-4-2):- Dudek (Capt.); Raven, Henchoz, Whitbread, Warnock; Nunez (sub Smyth, 69), Biscan, Diao (sub Partridge, 110), Potter; Mellor (sub Welsh, 52), Pongolle

Subs not used:- Kirkland; Foy

Anybody else remember that game. Kanoute's crazy handball, Pongolle equalizing in the 118th minute and us winning on penalties. I think this match does not get a lot of attention due to the number of other memorable games we had in the 2004-2005 season. But I absolutely loved every minute of this game. An absolutely mental game where we barely could spring two passes together for 120 minutes and won on penalties. I remember Pongolle and all our youngsters celebrating with our away fans after the game.

We played Olympiakos a week later. Our victory over Arsenal with Mellor's goal was four days earlier. Fuck me, it still gives me shivers thinking about those games.

Exciting times.

Not one player from that team are still at the club. I wonder how many of our current second string will still be here in five years time.

Jeez, what an awful side.

People i know at Wednesday reckon Potter is pretty good these days. I find it hard to believe.

Apollon Limassol according to wiki.

They are a Greek Cypriot sports club, based in Limassol. It has football, basketball and volleyball teams. (Thanks Wiki again)

Think he's captain of the basketball team.

With a side line in accounting.

I think his life story is what the shawshank redemption was based on.

I thought he studied law? It was in FourFourTwo a few years back.

I remember the same.

Ha. Maybe it is law then.
I knew he had a decent qualification outside of football.

Probably not many. They are second string for a reason

Looking at that team the likes of Diao, Dudek, Biscan and Henchoz were pretty much doomed as soon as Benitez arrived. He was just waiting for replacements.

Even the young players in that team were players he had inherited and I doubt he rated them particularly highly.

And their subsequent achievements suggests his assessment was bang on.

Will they be here in 2014?

Cavalieri - Doubt it
Degen - No Chance
Skrtel - Should be part of a solid defence along with Agger
Kyrgiakos - Retired by then
Dossena - Gone this summer at the latest
Spearing - Not really showing any signs that'll he'll make it here
Plessis - Same as Spearing
Eccleston - ???
Voronin - No chance
Babel - It doesn't look good for him. He'll be a full time twiter rapper by then.
N'Gog - I think he could do enough to stay, not sure in what capacity though.

Haha. Yeah indeed.

Warnock is doing okay, and I'd prefer to have Pongolle than Voronin but not that fussed about either really

Sounds about right but not so many complete no-hopers there. Only Dossena out of that lot has been completely frozen out in the same way that Henchoz and Diao were

Squad players, good or not, don't seem to last that long under Rafa so I doubt any of them will be around unless we see a real class act develop.
