There was plenty of talk recently about Fernando's astonishing strike ratio, and rightly so. Then the comparisons with Rush, Fowler, etc.

However, Roger Hunt scored 245 LEAGUE goals, including 41 goals in 41 games in the 1961/62 season.

Fernando would have to remain at his current incredible rate until he was 32 to beat this (which in fairness, isn't as long as I'd predicted when I was thinking about this 😉 )

Arise 'Sir Roger'.

I thought he scored 245 in total for us mate? That mean he never scored a cup goal? ???

Still a fantastic goal scorer though!

Ahhh so he was only 1 goal every two games in the cup then 😉

Bottler.

My dad was talking about this just yesterday btw, it was making him feel very old that he saw this era of players play more than others, and incredibly old when a commentator said "your grandfather might be able to tell you about..." He ran the great north run a couple weeks back at 72, then the commentator does that to him.

look 'Saint George', you either call me Sir with a sincere heart like how you mean it and do away with the apostrophes or you don't call me Sir at all.

To be fair, this was back in the day when it was illegal for a goalkeeper to move off his line.
