RAFA BENÍTEZ

Thursday 13th September 2012

Tickets on sale this Friday 3rd of August at 9.00am!

Rafael Benítez will be at Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre for one night only for an intimate evening this September. For this very special event the audience will gain an exclusive insight in to the mind of one of Europe’s most successful and celebrated football managers. Rafa will share memories from his early career at Real Madrid, his winning times at Valencia
and his fateful beginnings at Liverpool Football Club. Discover what really happened at half time in Istanbul in 2005 and his subsequent years at LFC. Listen as he talks about his latest book: “Champions League Dreams” and explains how he took Liverpool to their historic fifth European championship.

"Champions League Dreams" is a stimulating and deeply insightful football narrative by Rafa Benítez which focuses on the legendary manager's dramatic six Champions League campaigns with Liverpool.

Rafa expertly navigates fans through intriguing European adventures that embrace the triumph and despair of two Champions League finals, three semi- finals and five quarter-finals in what was a golden era for the Anfield club - an era that supporters felt gave them their pride back after years in the wilderness. What sets "Champions League Dreams" apart is the unique ways in which Rafa allows fans into his high-pressured world, the fascinating glimpses he offers of a top manager's thought processes and decision making during the cut and thrust of a high-octane European campaign.

Understand how a great manager prepares for, then executes, a master-plan for European success.

"Champions League Dreams" is released on Thursday 13th September and is available to pre-order from Amazon.

What do you reckon, Ross ?
You going to check it out ?

I'm having visions of you being forcibly ejected from the room, ranting as you go.

Now I'm having visions of leading a tactical assault team on the venue.

Two targets.

Execute with extreme prejudice.

Questions:

How come you made so many mistakes after you sacked Pako and everyone else who had the temerity to question you ?

How many times did you watch Dossena before signing him ?

Xabi ... explain.

.... just the facts Rafa.... just the facts.

How did you manage to convince thousands of people that despite concrete evidence to the contrary, interest payments were not the reason we couldn't spend any money, it was because you spent all the money and doubled the wage bill ?

Knowing that, and how much you love the club, why did you then go behind the clubs back to negotiate your next job with Inter and at the same time seek a payoff from the club you love ?

Does it hurt that Mourinho is better than you ?

why was gareth barry the only person in the world who could pass to Robbie Keane ?

“You never know,” he said slowly. “Football is a funny game. The plan was for Barry to play on the left and feed the ball to Robbie Keane, who would play up front with Fernando Torres. This blueprint had to be scrapped. The collateral damage was Keane, who signed from Tottenham Hotspur before the Barry deal had been done.

“When we wanted to sign Barry, we were sure we were signing a good player with a very good mentality and the quality to play in the Premier League. The priority was Barry, then Keane.”

Jesus' best position would be somewhere in defence though. Many years ago a poster outside a church contained a two-word message, "Jesus saves", to which someone added: "St.John knocks in the rebound". At about the same time, a sort of comedy phrasebook called (I think) "Lern Yerself Scouse" reported that the Scouse expression for " a long time ago" would be: "That was when Jesus was playing full-back for Israel".

Nice.. To be fair I put on a fair bit of weight during those years.

You'd love me now though MM.

After the slightly unfair and unbalanced views expressed herein, all I can say is "Rosco the Insider"

Ask him how despite being our most successful manager in over 20 years he still has to deal with carping fans who prefer to see his mistakes?

*should have seen this coming*

*didn't*
