Capello? The squad? The FA?

In an ideal world, the FA would realise we're a wee bit up shit creek, and pump money into grassroots coaching. Then we could teach kids to work as a team and pass the ball intellligently(i know, right?). We might even score a few.

Won't happen though. After every exit in recent years, the media will just scapegoat capello, and we'll carry on like nothing big has happened. Why?

I said when the Frank goal was disallowed that there was the excuse they'd be looking for... though after the demolition they may have to find another one too...

Probably Capello.

John Terry has been an embarrassment on and off the pitch. Appalling behaviour...

Capello has not covered himself in glory either.

I'd have thought the blame is likely to be shared around quite widely, given that so many of them have been so poor.

The buck stops with Capello though.

hopefully it'll be capello, who i blame almost totally for our failure in this world cup. sack the dickhead, please.

i'd like to see us get an english manager in, that's the proper way to do things.

Every single one of them,(exc james) capello for his not tellin players they are playin until ten mins before kick off,for playin steven gerrard on the flippin left, for leavin adam johnson and theo at home and playin emile heskey, green for his slip up.
The ref and lino cos Goin in2-2at half time would have changed d game,

Capello should rightly shoulder responsibility. He chose the players and tactics. Sadly, England never fulfilled their potential or looked convincing.

Playing Gerrard on the left was a stroke of genius!

Something wasnt right in the camp from day one. Im not going to pick out individuals for contempt, rather that the whole setup didnt work and needs change.
I think we needed Capello after Mclaren and Sven. We were lost as a team, and the wag culture of the past regime was far worse than what we have seen here, but it needs changing now, because its clear it hasnt worked. Time for a tracksuited motivator? Redknapp or Pearce? Before you poo poo Pearce remember he took the U21's to the final just 3 years ago with a lot of the players who will now be filling the places in the england squad of the ageing stars...

Anyway, we dont need any scapegoats, we just werent good enough this time. Maybe, just maybe when all is said and done we are a top 16 side and thats that.

I don't think promoting within the international set up works.
Ireland promoted Brian Kerr and he was out of his depth, ditto McLaren.
I'd say if Capello does go it'll be an English man who gets the gig.
Stuart Pearce was U21 manager and has managed in the premiership. Not to mention his England caps and performances.

It's hard to disagree with much of that Oncey.

The final point you made about us simply not being good enough is sadly true. We do have some very good players but the team overall is poor and unbalanced and has been for a long time. We get away with it when we're playing at a decent level and the opposition are average but that's as far as we can go really.

The real sense of disappointment is that although most knew we had no hope this time round, the team just never got going. You want something to cheer for at least and we didn't even get that.

I bet Sven or Stcheeve would have done better this WC than Capello. With the WAGS and all. I think he has been a carbon copy of Rafa, stubborn with no plan B and predictable subs. I hate football.

Psycho wasn't any great shakes as a club manager though.

Then again, Capello was, so how much of a guide is that?

Oh come on. The world cup just keeps getting better and better. Just be glad that we don't need to watch them be shit for another 34 games, when you're shit here, it's over.
Look on the bright side mate, BOTH our teams will have new managers and new philosophies within a matter of weeks.
Its a new dawn its a new day its a new life for me, and im feeeeeeeeeeling goood.

Pearce did alright with City, although the football (I watched a lot of City during his reign) was mind-numbingly dull. He had very little money to work with and had to scour the bargain basement for loan deals and what not as well as bringing through youth. Ireland, Nedum and Richards came through under him, plus he bought Hart and one or two other decent players for nothing. His biggest failing was blowing his wad (6.5M) on Samaras who isn't very good.
He only lost one game in something like 18 or 19 as U21 manager and took England to two successive finals tournaments and finished in the top 3 of both the tournaments. Plus he has 70 odd caps and is an England legend. He's worked under Clough, Robson, Capello etc, and he has managed at the top level and is willing to try youth.
I think if Redknapp couldnt be tempted he'd be the only sensible choice.......well him or Domanech.

Tournament footy is totally different to qualifying. It's all about spirit and bonding and it's clear we haven't done that. It's prob Capello's fault and I imagine a few stories will come out from disgruntled players looking to deflect responsibility. However, many of them need to have a look at themselves as they have been a disgrace.

Regardless of tactics and Capello's influence, after the 4th goal the England players just blatantly gave up.

No chance of 'Six Crazy Minutes' with their attitude today.

I hope that both Liverpool and England now invest in youth and take a leaf out of Germanys book. Not that they are world beaters but in Ozil, Badstuber, Muller, Neuer, Jansen, Boateng, Kedhira etc they have a bunch of cracking young players to work with going forward. Christ even Lahm, Mertesacker, Podolski and all are only mid 20's.
They knew they had to rebuild after 2000 and 2004 (and the worst team ever to play in a world cup final in 2002) and they did it, and they worked at their grass roots football and then went on to win with u21, u19, u15s etc.
We need to start again.

It might be an obvious question, but how do you do it?

Coaching? Structure?

What if our kids are just naturally less gifted?
Christ mate i hope smarter men than me are on the case.
I think a good start would be encouraging teams to invest in british talent.
Im not sure if thats feasible, but some form of investment from the sky money in the U15s leagues would be good.

Convince players from countries that you once invaded/colonised to turn down their own country to represent you.

We really could use a fucking winter break too. I love the winter football programme but it really doesnt help the home nations.
