They should do away with them and replace them with one sniper on either side of the pitch armed with a long range taser. One of them will have Dermot Gallagher whispering in his ear, the other will have Phil Dowd. Anytime some egregious foul occurs, Dermot or Phil will say, 'Do it,' and the culprit will be left writhing after the sudden electrical charge. For games featuring the mancs, Graham Poll will replace Dowd, allowing for Rooney et al to be accidentally tasered three times. That'll improve things, mark my words.
Most of the games we have lost have also featured tons of missed chances and criminal defending, Id be more worried about those things than any perceived refereeing issues

The ref we had against City seemed to favour us...For some strange reason!!
I get particularly niggled by the fact that, although their actual decisions remain as crap as ever, their hand signs and general mime gestures get more and more cheesy and ludicrous. It won't be long before they start shutting themselves inside an invisible sound-proofed box in order to show players that they are not open to any conversation, and rubbing their eyes crying clown-style when a player has to be carried from the field.
I sincerely hope nobody criticised the referee on Monday. Surely not?
To be fair I did not notice him until that stupid penalty kick. Worst thing is that it will hit back on Suarez.
He did actually ignore some positively Stoke-like time wasting, but then all refs do.

why don't we just let professional games be officiated in the same was as pre season sunday league games...
- the manager of each side ref's a half each
- the fattest / shittest player on the bench has to be a linesman
I don't agree that we blame refs too much. We were denied a whole series of clear penos for quite a long time, some of which could well have made the difference between winning and not winning, but in any case the majority of posts on here - including the one from macca to which you were replying in your post above - acknowledge that we can't just blame refs for our own shortcomings.

Although I'd settle for common sense. The game is too quick, too full of deliberate cheats to be easily reffed.
I've always felt because of the talking points it creates TV companies love it, as do the footballing authorities because the game is always in the news. If the powers that be wanted refs to be good they would give them the assistance they need, they won't.

Absolutely. We've been denied some clear stonewallers. And we never seem to get the rub of the green. I was just making the point that anyone blaming the officials for our recent shitty form has complete blinkard vision. The bottom line is, if we're playing well enough, we should still be able to win most of our games, regardless of how shit the ref is.

There wasnt as much focus on them in the old days. Certainly wernt as many cameras on them. They come in for a lot of criticism these days, some of it warranted, a lot of it not.
It's also a harder game to referee - faster and more pressurised, while at the same time the refs are given less discretion.
Ask fans from any team from Utd to Southend and they all think they're hard done by. We fare OK IMO in this regard.
