Snobs - there's still an amazing number about, don't you think? I don't just mean the arrogant Tory Boys, I also mean the 'ordinary' people who just seem dazzled by a posh voice and/or a fancy name. Take the adoration of Stephen Fry: he's an intelligent man, but he comes out with some astoundingly silly stuff, but everything is lapped up as if it's Wittgenstein or Oscar Wilde. If he had Frank Skinner's accent he'd be treated far more critically. Then there's that ghastly bald buffoon Alain de Botton- if his name was Colin Twatt I doubt his horrible pretentious waffle would even find a publisher. I despair - 2009 and still a public school accent seems enough to get all kinds of twits respect!
