He's started every Premier League game for us this year apparently. He was rather shite at the start of the season, but seems to have settled down a bit and been a bit more solid recently.

I know we need depth, but with Dagger a non-entity these days, is Skrtel good enough to be a starter next season? On the bench? Sold?

I'd have no problem with him being a fairly regular starter, provided he has some competition. We have bigger priorities in my opinion than spending a fortune on a centre back (especially if we begin to transition Kelly there as well).

He's generally good when partnered with Carragher, decent with Agger, and fucking horrendous with the Greek.

Credit where it's due.
Skrtel did really well.

I'm starting to acknowledge his importance to the team. Problem is that Carra and Skrtel are too similar regarding the way they play. None of them is the calm composed, towering center back of the Hyypia mould. I don't know if the Carra - Skrtel partnership is the right one for the future.

Translation:

'I want Gary Cahill'

Sell Agger, keep Skrtel.

Buy a new CB.

I'm afraid this is the way to go. Prefer it the other way around but Agger's injuries are just too frequent to make a settled CB pairing. We need at least one (two if Kelly doesn't step up as a CB) CB's this Summer to give us Carra / Skrtel / Cahill (?!) / Kelly and The Greek as #5 (anyone can have an off game).

Tbf, who isn't horrendous with the Greek?

People forget, the lad has gone through weeks playing alongside a different partner in each game because or big injuries to Carra and Agger, he's done ok. He's occasionally brainless and makes mistakes but so do many defenders, including Carra and Agger.

The question of whether we keep him or not really centers around how he fits in with the rest of the defenders we have. As Agger can't quite be relied upon, we need someone who can offer a bit of calm and ideally, organize the defence so we're not quite as reliant on having Carra in the team all the time. Skrtel can be very good, but he needs the right partner.

I think he should be a squad player at max. Too often when the going gets tough he is exposed as a weak link. He was good yesterday but then again it was one of the easiest games for a CB we've had this season.
