Doesn't look serious.

Alberto Aquilani has been given assurances that he will not be sold to raise transfer funds.

Roy Hodgson's reign has seen Joe Cole picked up on a free with Danny Wilson's initial £3.3 million fee covered by Albert Riera's departure for Olymiakos. Emiliano Insua's imminent transfer to Fiorentina will raise an additional £5 million. Though Yossi Benayoun and Mike San Jose leaving has contributed almost £9 million to the balance sheet money remains tight.

Liverpool still require a replacement left-back. With another striking option amongst the club's priorities a host of players are linked with an Anfield exit this summer. Aquilani who was suffering from an ankle injury when signed last year is often touted with a return to Italy.

However, his agent confirms talks have taken place with the Liverpool boss. "Alberto has had very positive conversations with Roy Hodgson and he expects to stay for at least another year at Liverpool," Franco Zavaglia said. "There are always rumours, but Alberto is enjoying his life in England and he does not want to go anywhere."

Absolutely zero, so far, on the web about this injury.

He's not putting much effort into squashing that ball, is he? Looks like a teenager hanging out at the youth club disco...

It only looks that way because Joe Cole is a newbie and obviously trying to impress everyone and Insuas fat arse is weighing him down.

'For at least another year'

How positive!

He'll be back in Serie A in we months or less, guaranteed.

One of the worst signings in Liverpool's history

Hodgson's comments regarding Aquaman:

"There has never been any question about Alberto's talents," said the manager. "It is obvious for all to see that he is a gifted footballer.

"What has been the major disappointment for him is that he arrived here with an injury that took an awfully long time to clear up.

"It was only really towards the end of the season when he started to show anything like the kind of form you would have expected from the outset and that will have frustrated him.

"He has got to use this pre-season to put all those disappointments behind him and get his confidence up but what I have seen during the last three weeks has been encouraging.

"You can see every day he is working hard to improve his fitness. He clearly wants to get back to the levels he was showing before he came here and that is a positive sign."

Hodgson confirmed he will handle the likes of Aquilani with caution during Liverpool's pre-season programme and is keen to stress the dangers of demanding too much from players too early.

"We have to remember that it is going to take some time to get to where we want him," he added. "We must not ask too much from him too soon.

"I would rather be putting him on the field and taking him off too early rather than keeping him on five or 10 minutes too long, which would mean he misses a training session in the future.

"We have done a lot of tactical work but most of the work that we have been doing has been with the Australian fitness people. We are really only scratching the surface.

"But in that scratching the surface, Alberto has come out of it very well, as has Lucas, who is really the only person who can say he is a genuine Liverpool regular."

I think he's talking about last season, that's pretty obvious.

You're saying Aquliani's doing it right and the other two are messing it up?

The aim isn't to squash the ball. It's a single leg squat they're attempting with the ball for support.

Benitez said that Aquilani was a shithouse last season, who didn't like tackles, couldn't play with any pain, and had some kind of mental issue

Does that sound like a Premiership success to you?

We should sell him *now*, because he will be just as much of a massive shithouse this season

although you can occasionally be a rather hotheaded young punk on here, i agree 100% with you on this matter. he's a classic misfit: sell now.

Benitez wanted scapegoats.

Fair enough, Aquilani wasn't the right player to sign, but that's not his fault. He is a very gifted player, so you ought to give him more of a chance.
