considering budget limitations, is there any way rafa would be open to signing lil mickey owen?

is he personally opposed to it? assuming he would be flexible with wage demands (given injury prone nature..), would rafa be against it after him leaving and then the saga over going to ncastle..

wondering what is in the way, as it seems quite natural a la fowler...

I think it's fair to say that this topic has been discussed exhaustedly in several recent threads.

I know others have likely discussed this to death, so thanks Rosco. I just don't get why he would turn down an offer to play for a club that would give him a chance to win a trophy. He's already a wealthy man. Surely honors mean more at this point for a fella who was won on england's best but who has never won anything bar the F.A. cup and UEFA Cup...

If it's even true, perhaps the pay-per-play aspect may not be why he turned us down. Perhaps he felt he wouldn't get enough game time to re-ignite his England career, which is what he wants to do above all us, I think.

As someone rightly said on here: MO's only role under Capello is going to be an effective impact substitute, which is precisely what we can offer him.

If he wants to go and play first team football for a lesser club, then fair play to him.

I don't honestly know what he's thinking. We're the only top four club that is going to offer him anything, you'd think if it was honours he was after he'd come to us. But I haven't ever really been able to fathom what motivates him for a long time. We don't really know the history or the relationship he and Rafa has.

I don't think we really need him, he doesn't fit into our preferred way of playing - but if Nando is out I'd prefer to go 4-4-2 because I think the lone role is beyond the rest of our strike force. OWen and Kuyt would be an excellent back up option when Nando is unavailable.

Why are you discussing the matter like the rumour about him being offered a contract is true?

I believe Owen would bite Rafa's hand off if he offered him a chance to return.

I still believe he's destined to return.

Do you think he'd bite Rafa's hand off for pay-as-you-play if Hull or Everton came in wih a 50,000 per week contract?

Let's face it.

At this point, his primary motivation is financial.

And that's fair enough for a 29 year old.

He's made his money at Newcastle - 120k a week for four years. At the age of 29, particularly with all the injuries and talk of retirement he's had to suffer, that he'll be thinking about how his career is going to finish off.

What would 17 year old Owen think if you'd have told him that at the age of 29 he'll have just been relegated with the worst Newcastle side in recent history and that the only clubs to publicly declare interest would be Stoke and Hull?

It's got to hurt and if I were him, my primary concern would be restoring a bit of respect and credibility. I wouldn't want to go out as a has been that people enjoy taking pot shots at.

I wonder if some teams are waiting until very late to make a pitch for him, by which point he might be a little desperate and since he's known for making poor decisions some club might get 'lucky' and get him on the cheap.

Same shit different summer. He's never coming back and will be soon out to pasture with his horses.
