So we've got half a team then..... Amazing how things have spiralled. So essentially we need:

Striker
Left Back
Defensive midfielder
Centre back
Winger

I'd have Carra, Agger, Skrtel and Kelly vying for one centre back spot and the right back birth, we need a big centre back, I'd like to see us go for Shawcross.

We need a left back, no question. I never want to see Johnson in defence ever again, Konch is finished and Aurelio... well we all know.

We need a powerful, athletic DM who can pass the ball, a big ask? Or at the very least a deep lying playmaker. Adam?

Wide - Anyone.

Striker - ditto. Well bar any West Ham shite.

Last night made me frustrated to fuck. I hope Kenny wises up quickly to what we've got and uses it sensibly, no more experiments, play players in their natural roles, bar Johnson who can have a stint on the right wing to save his Liverpool career. I'd even be tempted to give Babel a go, such is our complete shiteness on the left wing, unless Maxi or Cole can get their acts together.

If all else fails, give Pacheco and co a go, they can't be any worse than Jova FFS.

*Sigh*

i think the need for a new CB is not a top priority. the three most important signings are a DM and 2 wingers, all of some real quality

I know there are priorities, that's not the point, the fact is we need all of the above. Carra has clearly struggled lately and Agger and Skrtel, while 'good', both need a more commanding presence alongside them. Regardless of how shit most of the team was last night, we got done in the air *again*.

We desperatly need a new commanding centre back.

A def midfielder with passing and tackling ability, that doesn't look like he can't even run.

A pacey winger that can actually beat his man, dribble past him and get to the byline.

A quality striker that can play together with Torres or on his own. And actually make a difference!!!

we need a lot but we'll need to sell just as many and its far too much to address in this window -- maybe even the summer.

anyone we buy must be for the long term. yes we are flirting with relegation but we mustn't panic buy. if the right players aren't available now then leave it, the club has too many cloggers as it is.

I definately think the summer transfer window is massive with nesv needing to show just how serious they are when they say they want liverpool to challenge.

We also have an added problem now of convincing players to come to us. thirteenth place four points off relegation. Not the most attractive of propositions are we? Lets face it we cant even guarantee europa cup

I think that's where FSG's reported strategy of buying up top young talent might help.

We can sell the club as an exciting rebuilding project with the chance to play both with top talent like Gerrard/Torres and a clutch of young potential stars. We could also sell the prospect of playing more minutes than in a Man utd/Chelsea as build the team up again.

Regardless of our current plight, Liverpool will always be a huge step up for most young starlets. The optimism surrounding the new owners (and their success with the Red Sox in Baseball), Kenny's appointment (and that of Clarke, Comolli etc) should ensure that any Lukaku/Hazard/Chamberlain/Wickham etc out there can see where the club are heading.

Skrtel isn't 'good'.

I agree with Jack. We're going to have serious problems trying to tempt quality players to join us. I fear it will be about 5 years before we see Champions League football again.

Is there any chance that Comolli and NESV will look at the state of play and decide that this cycle of players is simply fucked and not worth the shot in the arm that will doubtless require a big bag of cash?

Given what Ross has told us about our wage bill you can understand FSG reluctance to invest even more until that wage bill is severely trimmed. We've far too many underperforming players simply not worth the money they're paid. They should be fucking ashamed of themselves but they won't be because they lack basic pride.

Letting Jova and Poulsen go would free up 130k.

Panic buy or not, in the situation we are in you can't only think long term. That would be suicide.

Agree with that totally mate. They need a long term strategy to reduce that wage bill but investment is needed now to secure our Premier League survival and improve us as a team

Absolutly mate. I was thinking about this after the game yesterday when I couldn't fall a sleep.

Kenny needs to decide how he wants to play and then assess the squad.

We desperatly need a new winger and a striker. Pace has to be a priority.
Looking at the team yesterday, our midfield is fucked. We seriously need someone like M'Vila. Or if he isn't available, Lass Diarra on loan short term. Poulsen can get to fuck. Everyone just runs past him, it's no wonder we concede goals the protection of the back four is a joke.

There are short term solutions out there, and if it can secure our survival without costing to much money - do it.

Our midfield was a disgrace last night.

I was very impressed with Lille's defensive mid Mavuba against us last season. Energetic, likes a tackle and keeps things simple. I think Lille are top of the french league this season so he must be doing something right. Could be worth a punt.

No-one's going to buy our shit, why would they? And if someone is stupid enough to take them off our hands, it will likely be for derisory offers.

Additionally, these players aren't going to volunteer to leave, they're on massive wages.

It won't be easy to get rid of all the dross. It never is, as we look forward to Off-season Clearout # 20.

We need a DM. It's been obvious for ages, and Kenny's ploy of playing three in the hope they could do the job of two top quality CM players isn't going to work when two of them are disabled and Ming is playing like a cunt.

It's a malaise that's been harming the team since even the best of times under Benitez; we have players that need other players around them, in order to fulfil their own BASIC job functions and help them out. A team with 15 players.

So that cunt Lucas has stamina and runs about a lot, but needs someone with a bit of bite next to him to tackle and bully the opposition, and also someone near him who can pass and create goals.
Ming needs someone near him who can tackle and stick hi foot in.
Crapsen needs someone near him who knows how to play football.
Johnson is a defensive liability, so needs Kuyt ahead of him.
Agger and Skrtel can only function with Carragher telling them what to do.
etc etc

It's no wonder the squad collapsed so quickly once Masher and Alonso left.

Thats a good summary Brendan. Very sad though, but true.

We've replaced good players with shite for a long time now.

It's tricky for FSG, waiting to remove overpaid dross from the club before recruiting new blood is a hell of a risk. If we were to be relegated the sums involved would seem trivial to the loss of revenue, sponsorship etc etc

As others have said a DM should be our first priority. The spine of the team is the most important, and getting a proper world class DM, will:

1: Give our centre backs a bit more cover, possibly make them look better than they are, which I think Mascher did.
2: Give Ming and Stevie a bit more confidence and hopefully let them link play a bit more
3: Provide cover to attacking wingers a bit more often and allow them to get caught out of position a bit more often.

For me it's the most important position for allowing everyone else to do their job. We need real quality, which we'll have to pay for. I know we need a left back, a centre back who can head the ball, a striker and two wingers. But hopefully between Wilson, and a few more of the youths we can survive a bit longer and get them in the summer. I'd like our entire budget, if we have one, to go on getting the best DM available.

Will any actual real quality players now want to come and join a real relegation battle. I doubt it very much, we may have to lower our expectations in terms of the players we can actually attract. Your Hazards, Suarez's etc may look at us and think fuck that for a laugh. Maybe we could get them in the summer but I doubt very much now with relegation over our heads many would be intrested.

Exactly what I was saying earlier in the thread. We may be Liverpool but right now we are four points above the relegation zone, with no indications whatsoever that we are good enough to stretch that gap

I'm really tempted to sell everyone and promote the youth/reserve side and rebuild from scratch.

[/quote]

I'd go for that, ish.

It'd take another 10 years before it bore any fruit, and we'd need a manager at the helm with a track record of bringing them through.

Striker - Llorante or Benzema
Left Back - Contreau
Defensive midfielder - James McCarthy
Centre back - Gary Cahill
Winger - N'Zogbia

Some of those will be more difficult to get than others and some will cost a fortune (Benzema & Llorante) but I think they of the quality we require.

Reina
Jones

Johnson Carragher Cahill Contreau
Kelly Skrtel Agger Aurelio

Kuyt McCarthy Gerrard Nzogbia
xxxx Lucas Mereiles xxxx

Torres Llorante
Ngog Pacheco

I wouldn't think he'd be near £20 mil yet, but he will be in a year or two.
Wigan have him missed greatly. I see a lot of Gerrard at that age in him.
If we don't get him, the mancs will.

3 years ago, Spurs were in worse shape and they managed to attract a few useful players and they don't have our history. Spurs progress since then gives me hope.
