Jonjo Shelvey has deleted his Twitter account after abusive messages from Liverpoolfans following his performance on Wednesday vs. Stoke City.
Shelvey has taken the full front of Liverpool fans' frustrations as the team seems certain to end 2012 with their lowest points tally since three points for a win was introduced in 1981.
A selection of Liverpool fans seem to be at odds with manager Brendan Rodgers, who only two weeks ago heaped praise on the 20-year-old after his display vs. West Ham in an ESPN story:
But you see young Jonjo Shelvey at 20 years of age playing the number nine role in a different way - dropping into midfield and combining with players to make the extra man, being a threat when he is in around the box, showing great feet and I thought he was outstanding.
Shelvey isn’t the first footballer who has had to delete his Twitter account due to abuse. In October of this year Tottenham’s Kyle Walker deleted his Twitter account after receiving abuse from his own fans in the wake of his side’s 4-2 defeat at home toChelsea.
Shelvey is also not the first Liverpool player to remove his Twitter account this season after attacks by home fans. Starlet Raheem Sterling was forced to temporarily take down his account after he received abuse surrounding a supposed £50,000-a-week wage demand.
All of this will come as an unwelcome distraction as Liverpool prepare to face the Premier League’s bottom club, QPR, on Sunday. Last season Liverpool let a two-goal lead slip and eventually shipped three goals in 13 minutes. Last season’s result saw QPR pull out of the relegation zone and kickstart their route to Premier League survival.
A selection of unsavoury comments to Shelvey from home support can be found here.

It's modernity's great domino effect: idiots run the club, make idiotic decisions, idiot players compound those idiotic decisions with idiotic performances and then idiot fans tweet idiotic comments about it all.

I think the Jonjo fan club should hunt these illiterate cunts down

I will supply the weapons unless we have any American members? If we do, we can ask them to go to Walmart ... There's a special New Years deal - Spend $1000 dollars on food and get 4 M-16s for free!

And fucking Brendan Rodgers - I'm sweating like a fucking PIG here - fucking Brendan Rodgers said, "Because Jonjo thinks so much". To which that fucking fucker Enrique replies, "Well why then has fucking DOWNING got so much fucking hair????"

Heh true.. but you also get fans who call for heads to roll, whether it be owners, players, staff whatever, it happens and they get their just rewards. I don't think idiotic owners have bred stupid fans, it's a culmination of everything, particularly a media hungry mentality that wants everything yesterday, so it ultimately ends up putting pressure on and forcing errors of judgement, which in turn has an effect on performance.

We see it on here all the time, for every good poster we have, there's always some moron posting jibberish about who's shit after one game.

Of course the flip side is fan power does have it's good points, cf the end of G&H, but anyway...

I've heard the panel are looking for new members as Stevie Wonder, Andrea Bocelli and Blind Willie McTell are all retiring at the end of the season.
