Here's the bottom of the table.

16 Chievo 36
17 Torino 31
18 Bologna 30
19 Lecce 29
20 Reggina 27

As you can see the good ship Bologna is currently navigating in some very stormy seas.

However there is some red sky as we retire to bed this evening.

We've got 3 games to play: Lecce at home on Sunday then Chievo away and Catania at home on the last day of the season.

We must beat Lecce, and then according to Italian rules, Chievo and Catania are gimme 3-pointers because it's the end of the season and they've got nothing to play for.

Simultaneously Torino have to play Napoli away (nothing to play for but southern Italy so potentially more compliant but equally potentially more volatile), Genoa in Turin (Ligurians in the hunt for Champions league football next year) and finally Roma in the capital (never easy).

I say if we beat Lecce we'll stay up.

What say thee?

I used to love a sunday afternoon watching Football italia, especially last season (season before?) with that fit bird.

Since they canned it, i've lost interest.

I hope Bologna do stay up just to keep you happy mate.

is from Bologna, coincidentally.

I must say Italian football isn't the most rivetting of spectacles.

I only watch Bologna. I haven't watched other games for about 5 years now.

Di Vaio can actually finish as top scorer in the league and be relegated, I think that only has happened once before in the Serie A.

I hope Bologna stay up, I've always liked them.

Lecce and Reggina will go dowm, but the last place is up for grabs. Chievo would be my preffered choice, as Torino is a pretty decent club to watch aswell.

I can't say I know an awful lot about Italian football but I think that history has been rather unkind to Torino what with Superga and the whole business over their football stadium. Because of that I would like them to stay up.

Having read Tim Parkes "A Season with Verona" I try to keep an eye on Hellas Verona, so I would be happy to see their rivals Chievo go down.

Good look any how mate. I can't imagine there is much pleasure to be had from a relegation dogfight.

Does Rosina still play for Torino. Hows he getting on these days?
Yes.

We played them last Sunday in Turin. He scored their (non-existent!) penalty. We draw 1-1 though.

Di Vaio equalised from the spot in the 86th minute.

It's perversely satisfying.

If we stay up, marvelous, Serie A.

If we go down, there'll be far less people at the games next season, so you don't need to buy a season ticket and even decide at the last minute whether to go. I can also take the kids becasue it's only 1 (one) Euro for under-10s.

We might even win a few games.

Here's the updated bottom of the table.

16 Chievo 37
17 Torino 34
18 Bologna 33
19 Reggina 30
20 Lecce 29

We won 2-1!! Injury time winner.

Torino won in Naples. (bollocks)

Chievo drew in Genoa, against said team.

I must say, I had a grand time at the stadium.

A couple of beers beforehand, a couple of joints in the ground, and a fine singsong.

Forza Bologna

Lazio played Reggina yesterday evening in a match valid for Sunday's penultimate round of matches. The game was played yesterday because UEFA need full access to the Stadio Olimpico for 1 week to prepare for the CL final.

Lazio won 1-0 thus condemning Reggina to Serie B.

Revised bottom of table

16 Chievo 37
17 Torino 34
18 Bologna 33
19 Reggina 30 (only 1 game to go, everyone else has 2)
20 Lecce 29

We're playing Chievo in Verona on Sunday.

3 points for us and a defeat for Torino would be nice.

To think this could be us if we dont buy a Villa-Messy come summer.

They started really well and were in a CL spot until Christmas-ish.

Their form then nose-dived, they sacked the manager and hired Roberto Donadoni in his place.

They are now in mid-table obscurity with nothing to play for.

Torino beat them last weekend in Naples. A first away win of the season.

See what I mean about Italian rules?

All the best Bologna.

Was Signori from Bologna? Is he some kind of a legend there?
He's not from Bologna but he played for us for 6 years from 1998-2004.

Yes, he's considered a legend.

Not that we won anything mind, that is if you don't count the 1998 Intertoto Cup

Yes, a much-maligned competition but we qualified for the UEFA Cup, reached the semis and only lost then on away goals to Marseille.

I remember watching him play and thinking he was an excellent striker. I think he moved to Lazio after that?

What a good player he was.

Update

16 Chievo 38
17 Bologna 34
18 Torino 34
19 Reggina 30

We drew 0-0 but Torino lost 3-2!!

No goal difference in Italy.

Places are decided using results against the team you've got the same points as.

There must be a simpler way of saying that. Anybody?

So it's in our hands, on the last day of the season, against a team with nothing to play for, and we're in Italy.

Forza Bologna

How are the Red Men doing?

1-0 against Spurs - Torres got the goal.

Pretty much secured 2nd spot.

fight at the end of the torino game with genoa:

Yes, I meant to mention that.

Thanks LTW.

So hopefully something else in our favour with half the Torino team banned for the last game of the season.

Against Roma, on Sunday in the capital, Torino will be without 7 suspended players (5 due to the ruck at the end of the match against Genoa and 2 others).

Looking good!!

I'm not sure whther I've posted this already but Bologna simply need to achieve the same result as Torino to stay up.

Obviously an easy win for us is the ideal scenario, but I won't be complaining if Totti has a 1st-half stormer to put the Romans 4-0 up at the break.

What if you drew both those games nil nil?

In the event of equal points between 2 teams the following criteria are used to decide who goes down:

1) points in matches between the two teams
2) goal difference in matches between the two teams
3) goal difference for the whole season
4) most goals for the whole season
5) toss a coin

Hahaha! Could you imagine the mayhem caused just by a coin toss.
