Born in 1997 fucking hell. Sounds good, we're building quite the awesome under 18 side.

This is news that is great log in and see.

I'm getting more excited the mroe I see if Rogders long term plans

Whatever happened to that Sergio Caneles player who went to Real and was meant to be next big thing?

He's at Valencia now actually, having spent last season on loan there. Doesn't seem to be playing much for Valencia too. Seems like Real has a buyback option for the next 2 seasons when they sold him to Valencia for 7.5m euros (Wiki).

If I'm not mistaken he ruptured his ligaments a few months back. That's the reason he's not playing much at Valencia.

The article says Canos is much loved at Barca, that his idol is David Villa, that he's scoring lots of goals and has represented Spain at youth level. What I don't see is any sign of dissatisfaction, any sign that he would be open to a move to Liverpool. Don't get me wrong - I am pleased at the link, hoping its genuine, but as to its possibility ... I'm struggling to see it.

Oh yeah, you're right. Not really a few months back but seems like he's been very unlucky with injuries, doing his knees twice close to each other. This was from April last year:

Sergio Canales faces lengthy injury layoff

The attacking midfielder, who is on loan at Los Che from Real Madrid, has picked up yet another serious knee knock, and could be out of action for six months

Unai Emery has received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of Valencia's 1-0 Europa League loss against Atletico Madrid on Thursday as Sergio Canales has suffered an injury.

The 21-year-old featured from the start in the second leg of the semi-final tie, but was stretchered off the pitch around the hour mark after twisting his knee.

Canales underwent further examination on Friday, and Valencia have now confirmed that the attacking midfielder has damaged ligaments, and will consequently be unavailable for about six months.

Canales had only just returned to full match fitness after spending several months on the sidelines due to another knee problem.

The Spain Under-21 starlet joined Valencia from Real Madrid on a two-year loan deal at the start of the season, but his ongoing injury problems have prevented him from making an impact at Los Che so far.

I'm sorry - how many of these teen signings actually workout for us? (Yawn)

We started signing teens when Benitez joined, so it's not like we've been doing it forever.
Benitez 2nd batch included Wisdom, Suso and Sterling and they seem to be progressing well.
Later on, we signed the likes of Ibe , Sinclair, McLaughlin, Trickett-Smith, Ojo etc.

Sure we've failed with a lot of them, but some went on to have good careers. San Jose, Roque (RIP), Barragan, Pacheco etc.

You're right. Let's just scrap the academy and tell the likes of Sterling, Ibe, Wisdom and Suso that their services are no longer required and they are free to seek alternative employment.

Since we've been going for the really top youngsters (can be traced to near end of Rafa's time, with Sterling and Suso) I don't think any of them have failed to make an impact once they've reached the right age. Obviously time will tell for some of them, but this lad fits into that category.

Sterling
Suso
Ibe
Sinclair
Jones
O'Hanlon
Trickett-Smith
Ojo
Canos
Chirivella
Kane
Dhanda

The mistake would be to compare these players to the dross that Rafa filled up the reserves with and say that they won't make it either. It's a completely different situation.

Shelvey and Sterling worked out pretty well.

I wouldn't look at Rafas ones as indicative of anything since they were brought in mainly because he was in a strop with the academy, not because they were great.

True.

It (the changes at the Academy) may have happened anyway but it was Rafa by all accounts that made them happen when they did and he should get the credit for that rather than saying he bought a load of crap youth players. The likes of Barragan, Hobbs and Anderson have gone on to have decent careers anyways. It's not like they're plumbing the depths of the leagues. And he was here when we bought the likes of Wisdom and Sterling who are starting to make their names.
