Scottish Independence

The Scottish electorate voted in the SNP and Alex Salmond, knowing he was pro-Independence, which is fine, it's a democratic decision. Alex Salmond want a referendum about Scottish Independence which is cool, they're entitled to decide whether or not they remain part of Great Britain.

Where I have a problem with Salmond & The SNP is they want to dictate when they have it (2014 which is "coincidentally" the 700th anniversary of Bannockburn - stoking Scottish passions) and they want a "3rd option" i.e. in case they lose the referendum they want another option of more power devolved away from Westminster.

I'm sorry but that's shite. You either get Independence or you don't and the referendum should be within the next 12 months, there's no point in hanging around waiting.

My idea is, England, Wales and NI have a vote to exclude Scotland from GB. If the vote is carried, then in 2014 Scotland can vote whether or not they want to come back into the union. At least this way the Scottish, if they vote to re-join GB will be reluctant to vote in Salmond with his anti-GB rhetoric.

On a separate point, how come Salmond is never questioned about his "We could be the new Ireland" rhetoric from a few years ago when he was suggesting that Scotland could copy Ireland's Celtic Tiger economy. He doesn't seem to mention Ireland much these days.

Any Scots on here? How do you feel about Independence. All the Scots I know (admittedly all of whom live in England) are against Independence.
