He gets a basic of £200k/week at the moment, when you add bonuses and incentives, it's probably double.
He is 29 now will turn 30 before the next transfer window opens, his current contract ends in June 2023.
How much do you think is the max the club should pay him ie basic + bonus and how long of a contract should he get?
You can't sell him this year either, as PSG want to sell players now and the other clubs a cash strapped around Europe.

Seems as though its close to getting sorted, so I'm guessing we have some monies.

I don't worry about his age like I would others. He's never had major injuries, he's still fast as fuck and a true athlete, so I could easily see him performing to something like his current level for the next 5/6 years. I also think he could end up moving more centrally, whether as a 9 or 10, to cut down on his running up and down the wings.
Stack it in bonuses if need be, but the club should do what needs to be done.

Rumours are 4 years and anything upto £400k a week. basic pay before incentives is what Salah wants

One of the guys on the Echo podcast (another podcaster I, for no apparent reason, dislike, ... he isn't TPG) suggested Liverpool were leaving Salah's new contract to last this summer as they didn't want to provoke wage inflation among the other when they see how big a wedge Salah gets.

Beamrider can probably correct me, but this sounds like utter drivel. Surely agents aren't so dumb to not realise Salah will get a big rise; if that is a concern they would negotiate a clause in their players' contracts that states they are on a minimum of 90% of highest salary at club, or similar. If the club has the cojones to reject such a clause, they equally would have the cojones to push back on artificial wage inflation post Salah contract

I think the truth probably lies somewhere in between @tombrown - it would make sense to leave Salah until last for the reasons the podcaster states, and also because the rises given to other players might give the club a bit of leverage to bargain Salah down as well - "X is only only 2/3 of what you want so what you're asking for is unreasonable" etc. But yes, agents know what their players are worth, but the threat of going to Madrid or Barca doesn't quite wash anymore, and even PSG aren't pretending they have the capacity at the moment (plus he'd be a luxury to them). I just don't see him going to (or being needed by) City or United, even ignoring the politics of such a move. So I think the tactical advantages on both sides of the negotiation are only marginal.
I'm confident it'll get done, possibly by balancing the money more in favour of incentives and less guaranteed. Salah would be confident of earning the incentive-based stuff and as others have said in this thread, his consistency is remarkable. I also think he's still got a lot left in the tank so it's not like the club would be risking throwing a lot of cash at someone who could conceivably miss loads of games over the next 4 years.
As for the "best-paid player at the club" clauses - I never saw one of those. You do hear about them, but it only seems to be the likes of Raiola and Mendes who push for these clauses because they believe their players are box office - the likes of Pogba (good on his day, but basically a rich man's Jack Rodwell who, objectively, doesn't live up to the hype). I don't think any of our players have the kind of ego where they or their agents would dig their heels in for such a clause.

Look at his fitness and injury record, look at his consistency in goal scoring and assisting.

Personally I wouldn't give him a huge wage rise...no chance he'll get 500k+ , but a 4 year deal 250-270k a week with the same bonuses if we win the CL/PL or if he scores X goals etc.

The plan is to get Salah to sign his new contract after everyone else, and for him to be happy being the club's top earner.

Only after that will we announce Mbappe.

The 29-year-old has two years left on his current Anfield deal, but sources are confident he will agree a lucrative extension
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool have opened talks with Mo Salah over a new long-term contract.
The Reds, Goal understands, are hoping to tie their star man down to a two-year extension, which would keep him at Anfield until 2025 and make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, earning around £250,000 a week.
Salah’s current deal, signed in 2018, has less than two years left to run, but Liverpool sources are confident an agreement will be reached, and that the 29-year-old will become the latest player to commit his long-term future, following in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.
What did Klopp say?

Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Burnley, Klopp was asked if he was aware of any progress between the club and Salah’s representatives.
He said: “I’m involved in pretty much everything that happens in the club. Maybe some talks happen without me, that’s possible but I’m not sure. Apart from that I know about all things.
“It is how it always is; we don’t speak about these things. I know we changed that a little bit with Hendo [Jordan Henderson], but that doesn’t mean we will from now on tell you about each little step with negotiations.
“Firstly, Mo is obviously in a really, really good moment, form-wise, mood-wise, how he behaved from the first day he came back, absolutely great.
“We are all adults, we are all professionals. If there are talks there are talks, and if there's a decision then we will tell you. Until then it’s only important how the parties work together - and that’s not about Mo, it’s in general. We don’t have to talk about anything else, and the decisive people can talk in the background.
“But yes, with two years left, you can imagine that there are talks. That is it.”

What about Jordan Henderson's contract situation?

Earlier, Klopp had given little away when asked about Jordan Henderson's situation, amid reports a three-year deal had been agreed with the captain.
"No," said a straight-faced Klopp when asked if there was any update. "Still all good."
When subsequently asked if there was anything to be concerned about, he simply replied: "No."
‘If there are records, Mo knows about them!’

Salah, meanwhile, started the new Premier League season in typical fashion, setting two goals up and scoring one himself as Liverpool beat Norwich 3-0 at Carrow Road last weekend.
With 126 goals in 204 games for the Reds, he sits 12th in their all-time scoring list, and needs only four to move level with 10th-placed Sam Raybould.
Asked whether he used such records, or perhaps the idea that he could one day be considered the greatest forward in Liverpool history, to motivate Salah, Klopp smiled.
“I don’t have to,” he said. “He knows that. Mo is aware of all these things, and that is absolutely fine! He enjoys it.
“Breaking records is great, and the records he broke already are absolutely insane. I obviously didn’t know last week when he scored, that he is now the first player in the history of the Premier League to score in five successive [opening-day] games. And there’s a reason why nobody else did it - because it’s really difficult!
“If there are any records out there, he knows about them. And he doesn’t have to change his style, he just has to play football, and when he plays his football, when he works as hard as he does, there will come situations where he can score.

“With his quality, he can obviously do that, and I think he can set records with assists as well. Just being around goal situations, that’s Mo Salah!
“I’m really happy with him, but I never told him that he could be the biggest Liverpool legend ever, or whatever. That’s not something you go for, because people will judge you on that after your career.”

Hope all this international shit doesn't screw up the contract talks. We already blocked him from playing in the Olympics.
