Sahin hates Mr. Rodgers

The Turkish midfielder joined Liverpool on loan in August but his stay was cut short in January after just seven Premier League appearances.
Sahin is laying the blame for his poor spell firmly at the feet of Rodgers for playing him in the wrong position.
Now back with Borussia Dortmund on loan from Real Madrid, Sahin told AS: "It failed at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers wanted me playing at ten. But I do not play behind the strikers.
"I talked to him and asked why I was playing there - not my actual position.
"The coach could not answer...still, no regrets. To play and stay at Anfield is a wonderful thing. Maybe if I had not gone there I certainly could not have returned to Borussia Dortmund.
"Therefore, I am happy. But I have left Brendan Rodgers, thank God."

He's got a point in fairness. Rodgers has gone through some bizarre permutations in midfield that have had us all questioning his judgement. Now that Lucas is back and we have Sturridge things have been a little more settled but I don't think he made the best of what was available to him in the first half of the season.

Sahin is a pussy. We couldn't use him in his favoured position because he was a lightweight and a big time pussy when it came to tackling. The guy was anonymous most of the time and I was glad when we got rid.

I think Rurik raised the exact issue - saying something along the lines of "He's not going to impress until he plays where he's most suited." It happens. Both sides have moved on.

Even though he did at times looks like a good presence to have in the box, I always felt that him and Allen were being played in each others position at the start of the season.

There was poster on here who seemed to banging on about playing him behind the front man and that being his best position.

I wish he didn't say it, but I can understand his frustration, to be honest. He is not a jack-of-all-trades player like Henderson, he is a specialist for a certain role in the team and for Rodgers to fight so hard to get him and then never give him a chance to play in his best position was quite a bit bizarre - and I'm sure hugely frustrating for a young player who really needed a chance to shine and prove a point after a lost season in Real. I kind of understand Rodgers' reasons for doing so (see my posts in "Sahin and Gerrard" thread), but from the player's perspective he has valid reasons to be aggravated.

At least Rodgers was decisive enough to make the change at the earliest opportunity.

Not very often you see a player complain about a manager playing them in a forward role and wanting to instead play deeper in midfield.

Is he doing any good now he's back at Dortmund?

Not really. After initially losing Sahin, who was a key player, Dortmund struggled mightily for half a season, but then Klopp was able to tweak the balance of the team to account for the differences in the playing style of Sahin and Gündogan - his replacement. Gündogan makes more runs forward with the ball and short passes, whereas Sahin likes to sit deep and spray long passes around (ironically, Gündogan would have been perfect for the more advanced role Rodgers tried to shoehorn Sahin into). So now the team is set up perfectly for Gündogan and of course Klopp will not jeopardize the decisive part of the season to rebuild the team around Sahin again - besides, Gündogan is playing very well.

Sucks for Sahin, but maybe he deserves to pay the price for insisting to leave Dortmund before he was ready. Now he is almost forgotten, whereas had he stayed, he would surely be one of the biggest stars in Germany on par with Hummels and Götze.

Nice one Rurik. Is he getting any games or are they just benching him?

Klopp was on TV (last weekend, I think it was) saying the same thing about Sahin being played out of position when he was here.

He started only one game since his return, vs Hamburg (which they lost 1:4 at home). In the derby against Schalke he came on at half-time when they were down 0:2 and needed to change things.

Well, we ended his loan because he didn't look very good because we played him out of position. Clearly a different story could have been written

You have to wonder if we researched the player well enough.

.

Absolutly, but I'd rather let Henderson get games there instead. And he wouldnt have kept Gerrard or Lucas out of the team. 90k a week for a player on the bench on loan is poor deal regardless.

There are a few people thats claiming Assaidi and Sahin were signings pushed through by Chang. Seing how Rodgers has played them I'm close to believing it.

Gerrard has played all over the place without so much as a mini moan. Really good players take it as a matter of pride to show they can play in more than one position. If Sahin really is that limited he should be thankful any decent club is willing to indulge him, and shut up.

Bloody right! Cheeky sod. Play where we tell you to or fuck off. Looks like the later was the decision. Quite right as well.

I really don't believe so - I think Rodgers was very active in pushing for this transfer and going through various channels to convince the player to choose us over Arsenal. It was his decision, clearly.

Why did he want to sign Sahin so much, why did he fight Arsenal tooth and nail for him? Maybe he thought Gerrard was not going to be fit for very long or at that time he thought Gerrard could play further forward. But as it happened, Gerrard was fit enough to play every minute of every important game and he settled in Sahin's only position - so Sahin became surplus to the requirements.

I am still glad we prevented Arsenal from getting him.

Maybe mate, I dont know. Chang was very vocal about 2 players we should sign before he was appointed. Assaidi and Sahin. Strange tbh.

Doesnt matter though, Assaidi will probably move to Ajax this summer and we did the right thing in the end with Sahin.

I'd be a bit gutted if Assaidi went - Every time I've seen him he looks great. He's young as well. I never get why he doesn't at least get some bench time.

In fairness, Sahin looked like he played his favoured role early on and he was leaving holes everywhere. He wouldn't be the first deep play maker to be eased in in a less defensively demanding role, it was only after his initial struggles that he was pushed forward wasn't it?

I agree though, early in the season we made a hash of it when he had players that could have been switched around to get the best from what we had.
