Seems crazily premature to me.

Boss with less than two years left on his initial deal has admirers at Man City, Arsenal and Spurs... and has England potential

Liverpool want to tie manager Brendan Rodgers down to a new contract.

Rodgers, appointed as manager in June 2012, has under two years remaining on his deal and the Anfield giants are wary of taking any risks over his future.

The Liverpool board are yet to discuss a new contract with Rodgers, but it is believed to be on the club's agenda.
Rodgers has admirers at Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham, and could even be considered as a potential successor to Roy Hodgson if England fail to qualify for the World Cup.

Despite a run of three games without a win ahead of Sunday's trip to Sunderland, Liverpool have started the season well.

Rodgers and striker Daniel Sturridge won the Premier League Manager and Player of the month for August.
The 40-year-old Northern Irishman also impressed his bosses with his handling of the Luis Suarez saga.

hmm the same spurs who are top of the league with a young manager in his second season , arsenal who are talking about keeping wenger until he's legally dead 5 years and City with a brand new manager . Ok things change in football very quickly but again what has rodgers achieved here yet that is so good for them to want him ? He's still just talking the talk , nobody can judge yet if he can do what he says .

But anyway from our point of view , it will be interesting to see what they do at the end of the season with him only having a yr left . To not offer him a deal will create a fair bit of speculation.

I'd be happy to run this contract down. Unlike players i don't see manager's fetching a transfer fee. It's a one way street where clubs pay through their nose if they want to fire a coach, but manager walk out with just a hand shake if they want out. So it's actually stupid to offer a contract extension now when he has still got two more years on the original deal and he hasn't achieved any of what he said he wanted to achieve yet. He has delivered less than Kenny Dalglish did in his second stint at this moment and he has had more time than Dalglish.

Just let him fulfill on the promises he made at the start of this contract, and when it is over draft a new one or tell him to do one.

From the wiki, but I imagine this list is going to get more and more populated over the next few years. Note the years on the majority of those, many coming in recent days. Not nearly as dramatic as the list for players, but it certainly exists.

Have you looked at the amount of money paid out to our managers starting with Houllier?
It's in the tens of millions. No thanks, we can wait.

Personally I just don't see the big deal, its part and parcel of the football world these days and is just something that happens, every manager cant be the next Shanks, but you have to start as you mean to go on and it shows FSG trust him and the long term project he's building. Yes maybe its a bit early for some but if the owners want to extend it I say lets do it.

Where would Rodgers go when his contract's up?
He'll be clinging onto his role with us as long as he can.
If we end up winnin the league or coming close, give him a contract.
At the moment it's impossible to tell what will happen so let's just wait and see.
It's an unnecessary risk to take in giving him an extension with only one season gone, IMO.

It's all about protecting 'assets' though isn't it? If any other club wants Rodgers then, if he is under contract, we get compensation from the other club (which we would then have to pay on to whatever club we take his successor from).

The risk of course is that if he is under a long contract and he turns out to be shit then we have to pay the compensation.

Having said that, I think we should see how he gets on this season.

Tony Werner on Rodgers

[article=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/tom-werner-exclusive-interview-liverpools-2351527#ixzz2hDwuRQJr ]"I think Brendan has made remarkable progress," Werner said. "He's a great strategist and has shown strong leadership. When we hired him, we were confident we were getting one of the brightest managerial talents in the game and he is proving his worth.

"He's dedicated to improving the club as a whole and shares our vision of developing a club that is built for sustained success.

"He has shown a willingness to use young players and at the same time, demonstrated the ability to get the best out of our established stars.

Brendan is respected by the players. They feel he is a good strategist and a good leader and his philosophy has been embraced by everyone.

“We are all moving in the same direction and Brendan is very much the leader.

"We're pleased with the progress we're seeing on the pitch but our goal is to create sustainable, long-term success at Liverpool and to consistently compete for silverware, so we're not getting carried away with a few good months.

"The club is definitely moving in the right direction under Brendan and as owners we're very optimistic and excited about the future."[/article]

I'd give him a new contract, it will be a big boost around the club, which might help on the pitch.

I see no need to give him one yet. Wait until the summer then see where we're at. I don't think we'll perform any better if he has a new contract, so why bother.

The guy deserves an extension based upon his work in a year and a bit, you cant help but be impressed with all he has done.

It wont have gone un-noticed elsewhere. We need this guy to get us back to the top and if you ask me there is not a better person for the job than him right now.

I bet Utd are gutted we have him

We're yet to see his true vision of our team this season. We've generally performed poorly for 90 minutes. The results fortunately haven't reflected that, thank god.
I want to see him put his ideal team together and see exactly how well we can play against the best sides as well as the shit ones.
Then we should look at extending his contract. We've been burned too many times over the last two decades giving managers long term contracts, and having to pay off millions upon millions.
Fuck that.

I can see us giving anywhere from a 2 to 4 year extension as it stands, it's pretty obvious that we're heading in the right direction.

Only possibility of us not retaining him is if an elite manager like Klopp shows interest, which I would be surprised with.
