Great result!

I’ve noticed two games in a row now how Robbo keeps putting players onside when the other defenders have done great in putting attackers offside. I do understand his thoughts, I think, in that there’s no VVD + Matip/Gomez there and feels he needs to back the young defenders, but he’s also creating massive problems for us by doing it. It’s the kind of thing VVD would absolutely bollock him off for doing.

Anyone else notice this?

And I did (vs Fulham) here : Liverpool v Fulham - Match Thread

But for clarification here are just two screen shots vs RBL (both taken at the exact time of the critical through pass) , both times he is looking right across the line! One of which resulted in the header off the bar. He could have cost us two goals here and one against Fulham. Lad really needs to wake up.

The ball was threaded through from this pass resulting in Becker making an excellent save.

The header off our bar resulted from this :

He's obviously making mistakes, but don't you think it's a slight change of role? He's covering for the lack of pace in CB and often seems to be further back, whether he's been instructed to do this, or he's just taken it upon himself.

Of course I agree he's making a few possibly uncharacteristic positional mistakes, but overall I think he's done well for us. He's had a massively inexperienced and comparatively slow pair inside him and he's trying to cover them.

It's no coincidence our opposition constantly attacks down our right.

Sorry Steve but no .. if he's covering the CBs then he is in the best place to see where he should be. There's no point the CBs moving up to play offside and then finding Robbo 7m behind them (as he was versus Fulham) or 2 + 5m vs RBL.

And of course I love Robbo but this aspect of his game has very nearly caught us out. And it's really something that should be easy to cure. It could have made our game vs RBL very tricky indeed if that header had gone in.

Considering how anal Klopp is about his defensive line, you’d imagine he’d have bollocked Robbo about it.
It’s just weird that it’s happened two games in a row.
He’s been part of a team with a back line that’s made countless successful offside traps for 3 years so he should have a very good understanding of what he needs to be doing.
Maybe once he’s comfortable with a settled pair in the middle he’ll stop getting confused about his role. Hope so!

I am sure that there are some good intentions behind this thread, but to me Robbo like VVD is untouchable.
Nobody is untouchable and everyone can improve their game. What I find unforgivable though is that he made this error (badly) against Fulham and now twice in the very next game !

This is an area of the game we've always been strong at (playing for offsides) and two new CBs are being undermined by one of the most experienced. Maybe this is just as ThomasJJ said above and he's just mentally drained and therefore concentration lacking due to being over overplayed.

I'm not in disagreement. He shouldn't be doing it. Just everyone is human, well I think he is anyway, and I think he's been one of our more consistent performers. It's more on Mane, Firmino and the need to help more at the back that he's been less effective going forward.

Doesn't get a seconds rest, we go and buy what looks to be a decent back up cover for him but never ever use him.

Bizarre.
