Riyad Mahrez

Mercenary, and not willing to battle when his team needs him too. Fuck that.

I would - for one thing, he's one of the few good players who we could afford and might want to join us. Along with The Ox. And Salah.

Nope, three reasons:
1. The fee will be very high.
2. He wants to start. We already have Coutinho and Mané.
3. We don't need another player going away for 6 weeks during the season.

I'd stay away from African players, mostly because of the Afcon and also because I'm a racist.

There's a whole myriyad of reasons why we shouldn't sign this mercenary.

I'd love Mahrez if he can pull his finger out and leave it out. Hasn't that always been the issue with him ?

He plays where Mane plays.
Not needed.
That'd be an issue. Generally modern day wingers are versatile enough to switch flanks, but I've never really seen Mahrez pop on the left. He seems to have a strict preference for staying out on the right, and cutting in. That'll be a problem, especially given that Mane himself isn't someone who's very versatile either.

Can't Mane play on the left or through the centre? In fact, I was surprised Klopp has played him on the right all season. At Southampton, he was often deployed left.

I'm all for adding quality to the squad and Mahrez has the ability to ghost past players and wouldn't cost the earth after this average season. My one concern with him would be the workrate, but if we are signing a Keita, we might be able to get away with him. Plus he's shown he has the ability to score 20 goals from the RW and fire a team to the title.

When he's motivated, he's a quality player. I particularly like his ability to combine and pick an incisive pass. That's something we lack more so than pace/power. Only Coutinho seems to have that top class ability in the team. Mahrez has shown he has that too.

I wouldn't take him. He was quality in that Leicester team, but was nowhere as good last season.
Taking his suspicious attitude into account, I don't think he'd be good enough for us.

An isolated example, but only one I can think of off the top of my head... The best goal he's scored was the one he got at Man City in their title winning year. Broke down the left side, cut in onto his right past two and lampooned it past Hart with his right.

I'd love to get him. He's a lovely footballer.

I'm kind of torn on Mahrez. The player of 2015-16 would walk into any team, possibly including Barcelona. The player of last year was a disappointment on many levels. So what do you do with this information – believe he was a "one season wonder" and last year was his true level? Or try to find excuses for his performance last year with the idea that he's shown his class the year before and as they say, form is temporary, but class is permanent?

There isn't any doubt as to his quality. And a single player can't do it on his own - Leicester were clearly out of sorts under Ranieri and picked up substantially under Shakespeare, why that was is anyone's guess but according to those who follow Mahrez his second half of the season performances were akin to those in their title winning season.

Dont want him. The 15/16 Mahrez was absolutly unplayable but his attitude didnt seem the best last season.
He's also only effective on the right, starting 44 out of 47 games out there.

If we're spending that type of serious money, he'll cost a shitload and I'd want someone who can also play on the left wing without it crippling their game to much.
Also, swapping Mane onto the left after last season seems a bit stupid in all honesty.

He is also very good on the left and often swaps sides. However because at Leicester they had other options it made sense to start him on the right.

They've been playing Albrighton on the left for the last two seasons. From the Leicester games I've seen I can only remember seeing Mahrez on the left once, in all honesty.

No doubt that he can play there, but will he be as effective without the ability to cut inside. I doubt it and it wont be worth the 40-50 mill they'd want for him.

Kante is probably the one Leicester player we should have got.

Personally wouldn't mind Kasper, but Kante is the stand out candidate and we lost out - I don't think we should be in for Mahrez.
